Intro

I love comedy. Who doesn't love to laugh? Comedy is also a great opportunity to address a big topic without being "preachy". "The Prenup" was born out of the adolescent question, "how do I get the girl/guy of my dreams?" While directly it's not some deep existential question, it is asking "how can I be accepted or what is our society expecting of me?"

THE STORY: What is "The Prenup"?

It started with a napkin...

 Then there was love...

Guy and Lindsay are Spartan race competitors that are the ideal couple. Guy's dream is to bootstrap a marketing firm. Lindsay's is to have a family.

Their perfect life comes crashing down when Guy confesses that he doesn't want children..ever. They divorce. There's a prenup{the napkin}. Guy decides to manipulate the prenup unbeknownst to Lindsay enabling him to keep his dream. But, when Lindsay finds out there's going to be fire!

Where there's smoke...nah just a blazing fire!
Where there's smoke...nah just a blazing fire!

Message of the movie

Is that alright to do?
Is that alright to do?

A father sees the opportunity to show his young son what society expect of a man as he holds open a door for a young woman entering the building. Offended the woman barks,"that's sexist! I can open my own door, thank you very much!" Still holding the door open as a now embarrassed dad looks down at the little boy is interrupted by a very attractive woman entering the same door in which she smiles, "thank you, nice to know that chivalry isn't dead". Proud papa smiles at his son when out of nowhere we hear a loud "schwack" as his wife smacks him on the back of the head saying, "you ought to be ashamed of yourself teaching our son to objectify women!"

Experts say that "masculinity is a social construct. Confused?! So is every guy nowadays as what to do.

Why Kickstarter?

I don't have a million buck that I can spare for a movie. Honestly it's difficult raising money for a project.

Our budget for the film is $1 million. Our approach is non-traditional and tradiional. In the film industry there are a few ways that you raise funding for your project. 1.) The studio financing route where you partner with a major studio. In the US an estimated 700 movies get made a year. So, that option isn't available for small budgeted indie films. 2.) You look to partner with another production company that's looking for a "packaged" project to distribute. 3.) You raise funds through private investors.

We're combining the traditioal option of partnering with another production to co-produce. Co-production want to be in a strong position when they're selling the idea to distributors.

What's a strong position?

A.) A high concept story..."The Prenup". B.) A household name actor attached as cast members. C.) A strong production team. D.) Either an intellectual property that has a built-in audience or you bring an audience with your project.

The fund usage allows us to put our best foot forward.

Risks and challenges

There are risks inherent to film production. Our goal is to get our film and get it distributed.

After we have finished production we would like to massively distribute the project. There are many distribution methods that are readily available now. Our choice is an online outlet. The primary reason is because viewership online has surpassed theatrical viewing. Simply said, more eyes online. So, to increase our chances and reduce our risk we have come up with the plan to build an online audience following that makes our film all the more appealing to the online distribution vehicle that we've chosen.

We also wanted to increase our chances online by using talent infront of the camera that already have a significant audience online. Our strategy is to attach talent that has more then one project online. This is appealing to the distributors because its a built in audience.

We also have chosen talent that are on the cusp of becoming a star. An actor who is looking for a outbreak opportunity such as being the lead on a major motion picture. "The Prenup" fits that scenario. We done this because although they have a following they are still affordable for an indie film. A mutual benefit for them and our project.

Films loose money everyday. 8 out of 10 film floop. We want to be in the 20% that success. That means making sure that co-productions make their money back. One way that we ensure that success is by what we have mentioned above: strong team, known talent, built-in audience, experts in social media and relationships. Another way to reduce the risk is filming in an area that has a filming incentive. Los Angeles has a wonderful incentive to those who film here. Even though our budget is low we can apply for the incentive which will cover some of our productions costs. Hence, getting the co-production back its principal investment.
