About this project
Welcome back to STARGATE: ATLANTIS! American Mythology is a comic book publisher that is focused on creating the best new comics based on your favorite properties from film and television. We are launching our first title based on the incredible sci fi program STARGATE: ATLANTIS! Our approach is simple - we find writers and artists that are passionate fans of the properties we are creating and let them make the best comics they can. FANS CREATING COMICS FOR FANS! We believe that the end result is a comic book that far exceeds the majority of licensed comics being created. If you want to read comics as good as the show you remember, please help us reach our goal of creating a new STARGATE: ATLANTIS comic book series.
We are approaching this comic book series exactly like the television writers would approach a new season of the live action program. We have teams of writers who are working together to create "episode arcs" that would be exactly like you'd see on TV. The issues come together to make an authentic series that include interweaving plot threads, a mid-season and season finale, and new original adventures starring your favorite characters! This is as close as you can get to new STARGATE: ATLANTIS episodes and we plan to make them look, feel, and sound exactly like the fans want - complete with stunning new artwork, photo editions, and a few surprises that you never saw coming!
We have assembled the perfect creative team for the launch of STARGATE: ATLANTIS! Greg LaRocque, the legendary artist of DC's The Flash and Marvel's Web of Spider-Man is illustrating the first "episode arc" and is producing some of the most incredible work we've ever seen.
Greg LaRocque: After debuting with a story in Mystery in Space #115, artist Greg Larocque’s first regular DC Comics gig was a run of OMAC back-up stories in The Warlord. It would be the first of many regular or semi-regular assignments for the company and it led to his famous tenures on Legion of Super-Heroes, Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe and perhaps most significantly on The Flash, where he drew writer Mark Waid’s celebrated “Return of Barry Allen” storyline. He most recently returned to the character with DC Retroactive: The Flash - The '80s #1. His diverse, high profile DC workload also included The Big Book of Conspiracies, The Big Book of Hoaxes, Fighting American, Justice League America Annual, Justice League International Quarterly, Justice League Task Force, Primal Force, Secrets of Haunted House, Showcase '95, Steel, The Unexpected, Weird War Tales, Who's Who in the DC Universe, Who's Who in the DC Universe Update 1993, and Who's Who in the Legion of Super-Heroes, among others. While he has been best known for his long runs at DC, he’s also employed his powers for the House of Ideas. At Marvel, he provided the art for a number of issues of Power Man & Iron Fist, and illustrated the adventures of Spider-Man in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man Annual, Marvel Team-Up, Spectacular Spider-Man, and Web of Spider-Man. Over the course of his career, he’s also drawn The Avengers, Bizarre Adventures, The Incredible Hulk, Marvel Comics Presents, Marvel Graphic Novel #16 (The Aladdin Effect), Marvel Super-Heroes, Micronauts, Moon Knight, Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, Rom, Thor and What If...? He has also worked on numerous indy titles.
And writing the first episodes of the new comic book series, we've recruited the acclaimed creative team of Mark Haynes and J.C. Vaughn from the 24 comic book series.
J.C. VAUGHN (Writer) - J.C. Vaughn is best known as the Vice-President of Publishing for Gemstone Publishing, the home of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. In comics he has created or co-created Zombie-Proof (with Vincent Spencer), Vampire, PA (with Brendon & Brian Fraim), Bedtime Stories for Impressionable Children, Return of the Human (with Mark Wheatley), The Flight, and Antiques: The Comic Strip. With fellow Stargate scribe Mark L. Haynes, he wrote three original graphic novels and a mini-based based on the Fox TV series 24. He also has written or co-written Shi (with Billy Tucci), Mighty Samson (with Jim Shooter), Cory Doctorow’s Futuristic Tales of the Here & Now, Blue Beetle in the DC Universe Holiday Special 2008, and Battlestar Galactica. In the process he has worked with 20th Century Fox, Crusade Fine Arts, Dark Horse Comics, DC Comics, Disney, EC Comics, IDW Publishing, Image Comics, and Universal Studios, among others.
MARK L. HAYNES (Writer) - Mark Haynes has been working in and around comics, television, film and pop culture for more than twenty years. Starting his career at Gemstone Publishing and The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, he later moved on to sister company Diamond Comic Distributors, the world’s largest distributor of English-language comic books and pop culture merchandise, and learning the intricacies of comic book publishing and direct market distribution. On the creative side, in addition to co-writing the critically acclaimed comic book series 24 (based on the hit Fox television show) with J.C. Vaughn, he has also specialized in adapting licensed intellectual properties from the worlds of film and television into the sequential storytelling format of comic books. He worked with companies such as Universal Consumer Licensing, Pearson Television, and the Sci Fi Channel (SyFy) to launch comic book incarnations of the classic Battlestar Galactica and the alien invasion thriller First Wave. Among his most recent projects are the well received pilot script Flying Apart, the brash, insightful drama that examines the working world and private lives of America’s Air Marshals, Phase 6, a ripped-from-the-headlines medical thriller, and consulting editor on the near-future action thriller comic The Gatecrashers.
A host of other talented contributors are also helping out with incredible cover images and story ideas. We have big name creators including Mark Wheatley, Matt Wieringo, Andrew Mangum, Dan Parsons, Chris Scalf, Jason Craig, Buz Hasson, Ken Haeser, and Jon Pinto delivering some amazing images that are sure to capture your imagination.

Risks and challenges
From all of us here at American Mythology, we want to wish a sincere THANK YOU to everyone helping us to get started. We take great pride in bringing STARGATE: ATLANTIS to comic books with new adventures. We are all fans of the show and are working very hard to make sure that these are the very best comics - made by fans for fans! And if you will take that leap of faith with us, we plan to deliver not only the very best Stargate: Atlantis comics you've ever read, but a whole lot more from the vast worlds of Stargate!
STARGATE: ATLANTIS is a fully licensed comic book series. And as much as we love the show, getting the rights, creating the material, and printing the books is a very expensive proposition. We are dedicated to making these new comics the best and truest Stargate comics that have ever been published. With your help we can keep production going on the comics and complete the first full season of new comic book "episodes" on our way to a long and exciting run.
We will do our best to ship the physical comics out immediately upon publication. Goods that have to be signed or sketched after publication may take several additional weeks to get together. We believe that everything will be in your hands by June and maybe even a bit sooner. Shipping on time is important to us so we will do everything possible to make your experience with us a positive one.
Comic books are published monthly so delivering issues #1, 2, and 3 digitally will be accomplished after the issues ship. Digital codes will be delivered via ComiXology.
