*In a rush? Read the bold text! Also, our amazing update about PokéTrip is at the bottom.*
This game is not for the faint of heart. This is for the adventurers, the go getters, and the true heroes of this world. With SuperTrip, you and your friends will travel to locations you never thought were there. You may even find hidden gems in your own hometown you've never noticed before! The goal of the game is to reach all the destinations. You'll choose how many waypoints you'd like to discover, how long of a game you'd like, and go! You can race your friends or go as a group. The mechanics of the game will push you a little out of your comfort zone as you travel through possibly the innards of a city or perhaps the backwoods of the country. Even more, a sense of camaraderie will be built with your team as you share unique experiences that, before SuperTrip, never would have happened.
Because the mechanics are so closely knit with the playing environment, experiences will vary from a casual drive with friends to frantically racing through the woods to beat the other team. But at the end of the day, it’s not about the destination or who wins; it’s about the journey.
The game will initially come with AdventureTrip and CompetitiveTrip.
AdventureTrip is simply creating a game of your liking (number of destinations, max distance, and skill) and going out with your friends. This is good for adventuring and taking in the whole world.
CompetitiveTrip works the same as AdventureTrip except you split into teams and race each other to the destinations. To build the excitement, you'll see where your friends are, but not how many destinations they've collected. First team to reach all destinations wins!
These trips will come sometime after release but will be available to beta players as soon as possible! As soon as the first release launches, the expansions will get attention. The first of the expansions will be RoadTrip and WorldTrip. Additional funding will go into polish and making these modes as good as possible.
RoadTrip is where you set up a road trip! You set your end destination, and we create destinations that will lie a little off the beaten path. You decide how far! Taking the uncommon road will make your RoadTrip fun, and help you see what kind of adventure really lies ahead!
WorldTrip is one giant trip the world will complete. These destinations will be all over: from your backyard to the Pacific Ocean, the world is the limit! This mode is extremely ambitious but incredibly exciting. It's only with your help that I can make this mode come to fruition!
Simply put, this game is big and needs polishing. What I currently have is releasable, but it's not where it needs to be. I could get this project released by myself, but with your help, I can get it polished and in your hands much sooner. And the more this game gets funded, the better it will become. I have many longterm ideas I'd like to do with this project, but it takes you to make it happen.
So where does the initial money go?
Most of these costs are straight forward but let me hit on a few.
Mobile Devices: Luckily, I already own an iPhone 5 so there is no need to worry much about iOS. However, Android is a whole new ball game. I will need to buy two, maybe three, new devices. I'm doing everything I can to mitigate these costs, but there's only so much you can do when GPS and phone services are so integral to your game.
Legal: Copyright and a fancy EULA worked out so that you all can go super tripping safely. Since this game exists in the real world, there's still some legal footwork to be done.
Development: This is a mix of plugins I will need and server side work. None of this goes to paying me a salary or anything like that.
Extra: This money will go directly back into the game. I am looking to make a game you come back to repeatedly. Yes, it's a mobile game, but that doesn't mean it needs to feel like one.
First let me start with the rewards can change... to only get better of course! You are the people who are making SuperTrip become a thing. Simply put, I want to do everything I can to make you happy. The further this game gets kicked, the better the final game will be, and the more features I can promise to put in the game. I have many other game modes up my sleeve.
Rewards are to the side but below will help explain some of them.
Graffiti Pack: You're going to let me graffiti a wall? Not exactly. You will place a message anywhere you would like in the world (this could be in your front yard, by the White House, whatever!) and set whether it's above, at eye level, or on the floor. Then anyone who plays SuperTrip where your message is will see it! Think of Dark Souls; now imagine this in real life.
Custom Engraved SuperTrip Carabiner: This carabiner comes with a built-in light and compass... you know, for those times you forget your phone to explore. Logo will most likely change once the art is updated.
SuperTrip T-Shirt: This shirt is likely to change when the logo is redesigned!
iOS rewards are limited because I can only give out so many of my personal IDs. So when it says you get one iOS device, you will still have two versions of the game but I will only enable one of your iOS devices. Thus if I give one out, it's one less I have. That's why they require higher pledges.
DinnerTrip Pack: We're going to go out and get dinner and SuperTrip! This will not include travel or lodging. The dinner is on me though! We'll arrange when this best works for each of our schedules.
Designer Pack: Help in the design of one of the expansions or a SuperTrip event! An event could be organizing a gathering with friends, a party, whatever. These are pretty up in the air so please don't hesitate to contact me.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk this game has is not reaching its July release. As spoken of earlier, this game is very close to completion but needs polishing.
I will be doing everything in my best effort to not allow a push back of the release date. I have gone through six mobile game releases (personal and contracted) and have learned first hand how to reach deadlines and release dates.
That said, I'm still a one man team on this. Development and design duties fall solely on me, but I'm hard set on reaching my deadlines. This may mean some features are cut (to be added later) for the initial release to make its mark, but I don't believe it will come to that. The furthest I would consider pushing it back is August. But even August sounds awful in my mind.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
