Frequently Asked Questions
For most cameras with USB ports, Cambuddy Pro is able to read photos already taken, from the camera's storage card. Camera's USB mode needs to be PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol).
For most cameras with shutter release ports, Cambuddy Pro can act as a smart shutter release controller. Your camera can be triggered by the Joopic App (intervalometer trigger and in-app trigger), as well as Cambuddy Pro's all built-in sensors.
The following webpage gives the complete list of cameras supported by CamBuddy Pro:
Does CamBuddy Pro also have the functionality to change all the controls from the phone (i.e., shutter speed, ISO, etc.)?
Short answer: Sure, this is one of the basic functions of CamBuddy Pro.
Long answer: For most supported cameras, you can adjust the exposure time, aperture, ISO, exposure compensation, shooting delay, and other parameters any time on your smartphone via CamBuddy Pro. We call this function as "parameters adjustment". We implement this function for almost all PTP-compatible cameras. You can visit the following webpage to check whether your camera is supported with this feature:
For one camera is supported with "live view" feature, our Joopic app even allows you to auto-focus by tapping anywhere of the image or fine tune with manual-focus.Last updated:

Cambuddy Pro can be mounted on hotshoe, and the hotshoe of your camera doesn't actually interact with the CamBuddy Pro. This mount is removable.
If you prefer not, we have an elastic plastic protective shell cover with self-grip straps (included in the package). you can wrap it around your tripod, or other places you like.Last updated:
Short answer: CamBuddy Pro provides support for video.
Long answer: CamBuddy Pro provides the support for photo, video, intervalometer, and smart trigger functions. Under photo mode, you can change the exposure parameters, do auto/manual focus, define the delay time, and capture the photo by press the button on the screen of your smartphone. Under video mode, you can change the exposure parameters, do auto/manual focus, start/stop the record. Under intervalometer mode and smart trigger mode, you can choose to activate the shutter release port, or the external flash, or the radio transmitter.Last updated:
The top cover is anodized aluminum. Apart from aesthetic consideration, the metal cover increases heat dissipation, and boosts wifi signal.Last updated:

When you use laser trigger, you angle a laser to line up with the sensor on the front of the CamBuddy Pro and the camera is triggered when the laser beam is broken. We mainly shoot high-speed photography such as water drops, wildlife and would love to be able to set up my DSLR as a high quality camera trap.
When you use radio trigger, you send a radio signal with a handheld transmitter to the CamBuddy Pro and the camera is triggered when the built-in radio receiver inside the CamBuddy Pro gets the signal. It works in the way a common DSLR wireless remote does.
Radio trigger is immune to harsh environmental conditions and can be used to set off multiple CamBuddy Pros synchronously.
It is worth mentioning that you can use the built-in radio transmitter of a CamBuddy Pro to send a radio signal to other CamBuddy Pros. You can setup the CamBuddy Pro to send a radio signal cyclically (similar to intervalometer), or when the CamBuddy Pro was triggered by a sound/lightning/laser signal. In this way, you can use multiple CamBuddy Pros in series.Last updated:
I guess it works with other lasers and radio devices. If I decide to add these later, should the sensors on CamBuddy Pro recognize them?
The answer is positive. You can even use a laser pen/pointer to trigger the laser sensor of CamBuddy Pro. For the radio transmitter, we use the standard 2.4G radio frequency, so you can find a general handheld radio transmitter on the market easily.Last updated:
Does CamBuddy Pro provide the function of controlled exposure ramping for smooth day to night transitions?
Short answer: Currently not, but we will provide this feature in the near future via upgrading Joopic App and/or the firmware of CamBuddy Pro. It will be about Jan 2017.
Long answer: In our first version of Joopic App which supports CamBuddy Pro, we will provide the ability to adjust the exposure parameters manually when CamBuddy Pro and you camera work under the intervalometer mode. We understand the importance of exposure ramping function, and have noticed the exposure ramping function provided by other smart trigger device. So we have a plan to provide this feature in the subsequent update of Joopic app. The update will be available about Jan 2017. An additional note: to implement the exposure ramping function, we only need to update the software (Joopic App and/or the firmware of CamBuddy Pro), and we have implemented the online firmware update function.Last updated:
