About

Freedom-2-Roll is a full-length documentary special and web-series pilot designed to tell the story of the evolution of disability rights through the life of Joe Martinez, a quadriplegic who has spent four decades in a wheel chair since a surfing accident in 1977, nearly severed his spine.

Despite Joe’s devastating injury, and humble urban upbringing in San Pedro California, he was determined to make something with his life. Fortunately for him and millions of other disabled Americans, at the time of his injury the struggle for disability rights was being fought on the streets of America, laying the groundwork for a transformation that would bring hope, accessibility and functionality to Joe and untold millions of others.

Freedom-2-Roll frames Joe’s real life struggles and triumphs over forty years with an impressive collection of experienced and passionate voices on disability rights, who articulate the powerful transformation the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) has ushered-in across the country. Insights from attorneys, activists, educators, corporate leaders, politicians, designers, scientists, cutting edge medical researchers and concerned citizenry -- will serve to inspire a broader audience with the message that when government collaborates in a bi-partisan manner for the greater good, important transformations in society and in peoples' lives can happen.

After four years of 'sweat equity' development and production, Freedom-2-Roll’s Executive Producer Joe Martinez and Co-Executive Producer/Director Robert Corsini teamed up with Associated Television International, a long established Los Angeles based TV Production and Distribution company, for field production support.  Now that principle photography is nearing completion, following 6 weeks of field production in Los Angeles, Fresno, Palo Alto, San Francisco, San Jose and Chicago, the Freedom-2-Roll team is in need of completion funds to cover post-production and show closing costs.

Risks and challenges

The Freedom2Roll team has been committed to this story for three years. But for Joe Martinez -- this is nothing compared to surviving and thriving for 4 decades in a wheelchair! For the creators -- merging his unique personal story of triumph over tragedy, that so many millions of Americans have struggled through -- with the greater issues at hand regarding 'disability' rights, has been a significant challenge to overcome that is being resolved with time and diligence.

We are confident about the timeliness of the subject matter -- connecting disability rights to the present moment regarding healthcare in the United States, couldn't be of more significance to millions of Americans. The richness of the content we have already filmed across California and in Chicago and the enthusiasm we have been shown toward our approach is beyond inspiring. From Stanford University's Stem cell research lab to the City of Los Angeles Office On Disability, to cutting edge Architects and Designers, we are on the right track. In addition, we have a highly experienced team of producers lead by long-time documentarian Robert Corsini and key creatives like Kalik Osborne, and Bishrel Moshbat, who are well acquainted with what it takes to creatively structure and deliver broadcast quality documentaries that are beautiful to watch, emotionally engaging and carry important social messages.
