Update 10/23/12: Monsters

Hey guys,

Wow 25 days left and we've already passed $5,600!! You guys are awesome!

We wanted to share with you some monsters our artist Peter just finished...

We currently have in the neighborhood of 30 unique monsters but we're aiming for over 50, so if any of you have suggestions for monsters you'd like to see in Antharion please don't be shy about leaving us comments or messages. Also, feel free to share any ideas you have for Antharion on our new forum.

I actually just asked our artist Peter to create a witch doctor along with little minions that he'll summon, with exactly what you're describing in mind :)

TV away = run away. Autocorrect.

Sounds awesome! Please put us in situations where you kill off smaller minions that just happened to be babies of now very angry, pissed off momma behemoths. To the point where you practically have to TV away, regroup and go in for second attempts. Basically make us hate you for making the game unforgiving.

Mimics are something I've really wanted to do as well, great idea! I already had a vampire rabbit on the list. Beholder we'll definitely do, same with slimes. Fungus people is a good idea, hadn't thought of those. We're definitely gonna have some really huge half-room sized monsters too, just don't know what they'll be yet. Peter, our artist, just got done making a baby dragon and a few succubi that look pretty cool.

-Definitely need some Mimics (Treasure chests that look ordinary but come alive and have chomping teeth).
-Mud people that spawn out of the earth or floors?
-As a nod to Monty Python's Holy Grail, maybe a small Killer Rabbit with flying attacks that damage all team members per round.
-I'd like to see some enchanted flying swords or weapons, or at least evil spell casters that can cast a random variety of spells at you, not just 'Wizard shoots fireball'.
-Beholder, but you probably have this added to the monster roster already.
-Magic Mouths on walls, a nod to the old Bard's Tale games - They can either tell you valuable info (good), or voice attack (evil).
-And please toss in some monsters larger than standard size, and even up to half a room size bosses. Throw some HOLY CRAP WTF moments at us!

Oozes, slimes, molds, and some kind of fungus people. I love me some fungus.

Funny you ask about dragons, our artist is actually working on one as we speak. Definitely some mythological creatures.

Antharion will feature dragons? And maybe some more mythological creatures like chimeras.

great work I like those monsters they all have that special "flavour" :)
It would be nice if there was some kind of "military insect" monsters with an internal hierarchy, like 4-5 levels of those, from the simple drone up to the mother of all. You'd explore their hive and at the depths there'd be the higher levels (with the mother queen/boss monster in the inner sanctum).
I got this idea right now because of the skeleton. If he had a blue cape and spoulders and maybe a trinket and stuff, he'd look like a arch-whatever he is called (skeleton archmage?). So translating the idea of ever higher and "tougher-looking" monsters I came up with that hive/drone/motherboss thing :D

Also, Ettins: very similar to the cyclope but with two heads and a different AI/weapon/attack/etc.

      The Butcher pre-demon form.

I am sure you will not miss the classics like Huge Rats, Giant Spiders, Trolls with tree-clubs, Skeletons, maybe zombies.

What I would like to see is some original - surprising mobs. SO even if you have a classic monster, you would give them a special name or skill that is not expected (e.g. a ghost like creature called "Hallow" that is susceptible to fire - I don't know - because the sheets will burn or something :-) .... Just bring something original into the game :-)

Looks awesome! Big fan of any of the old-school D&D baddies, from the Mind Flayer to Gelatinous Cube. Any wall, floor or environment traps we can expect to run into??? Would like to see some of those graphics as well...
