Barton Springs is Austin’s premier natural landmark and is touted by many as the “soul” of Austin. Emanating from an underground aquifer into a pool that is 1000 feet long, the Springs have played a central role in this geographic region for thousands of year.
Philosophers, poets, painters, politicians, biologists, geologists, religious leaders, and daily swimmers all call Barton Springs home. Living Springs, an interactive, viewer-driven documentary, presents these many stories, and YOU will guide the journey.
Thanks to generous donors like you, we have raised $160,000 for the project.
With these funds, we have completed 22 or the 30 videos planned for the project. Many of these are now available on our website. livingspringsaustin.org Through our site, people from around the world can now learn about our amazing Barton Springs.
In addition to our web platform, over the last two years, we have hosted free, full moon screenings at the Springs, and we are very happy to report that Living Springs will soon be installed at the SPLASH into the Edwards Aquifer exhibit at Barton Springs, an educational exhibit that sees 90,000 visitors each year.
Risks and challenges
Risk and Challenges:
At this point we are in the home stretch on this series. The only risk involved is that the videos may take longer to finish than we anticipate. If all goes according to plan, we will debut at SXSW in 2015. If not, it may be a bit longer. The good thing is that our project has been and continues to be built in small pieces and we will continue to add to it until we reach our 30 video goal.
