An "old school" top-down shooter with an 8-bit feeling, proving that a high quality, fun game can be created on a shoe-string budget.
Evil Zombies from Andromeda is a top-down scifi space shooter
where you control a futuristic spacecraft and defend the Earth from the
invaders (from Andromeda). Development time is expected to take six
months with 2 core programmers. The core game will have a Sandbox mode
that will appeal to those who wish to play hours at a time, or gamers
who can only spare 10 minutes during their lunch break. A story mode may
be added if time permits.
As game rooms have disappeared from malls and polygon counts have taken over home consoles, many gamers are left with games that are too expensive and not very good.
Evil Zombies from Andromeda is a new game that will buck the trend and take the player back to an era where games were meant to be fun and inexpensive. By focusing on an 16-bit visual style, we can treat players to a look and feel that will remind them of the good ol' days of gaming.
As with all good Top-Down shooters, Evil Zombies from Andromeda will have a plethora of classic game features that you would expect: interesting enemies, exciting power-ups, high playability, and most importantly, fun.
Above: Internal feasibility test. This is not a screenshot of Evil Zombies from Andromeda; it was a prototype/test we made to make sure we can put together a working (and fun) game.
"Fun" is a word that can't be stressed enough. A game like Evil Zombies from Andromeda will certainly strive to be challenging to gamers, but at the heart of the design it must be fun. That's what's missing in many of today's game, and that's what we'd like to focus on.
The second challenge we are facing is the rise of game development costs. It isn't uncommon for a developer or publisher to sink millions of dollars into a game, only to have it released in broken state... or a state where playing it simply isn't fun.
Evil Zombies from Andromeda is a challenge for us to make a fun and full-featured game on a tight budget. We want to prove to the world that we can make a great game in just six months. We're up to the challenge, and we hope you are too.
Expected Minimum Game Specs (subject to change):
•Windows XP or greater
•Direct X 8, Video card with 32 MB minimum RAM
