Fiction Update: Selected Excerpts from the Accounts of Abbot Dario of the Ashes Day 4

Year of our Lord 1101, April 5th

I and twelve others fled the abbey and sought shelter on a tall hill that Selaphiel told me would be safe. From there we witnessed true Divine wrath.

On one side of the field stood the combined armies of the Genoan merchants. On the other stood just seven small figures. Many mistook them for mortal men, but I knew right away that they were the Angelic Host, the holy Seven itself. When six of them turned and quit the field, the Genoan armies began to laugh, so loud that even I could hear it, but the remaining angel stood firm and soon their mirth became fear and bemusement. Selaphiel lifted his arms and revealed his true form, the one I had seen in my dreams, and fire overwhelmed everything.

I and my twelve sat upon an island of green grass amidst an ocean of ash.

He came to me then, his face shrouded so that I would not go blind at his radiant countenance, and without a word handed me a sealed order from the Vatican. As no one was left to war, these lands were considered surrendered and I was named abbot of Borzone.
