Our Kickstarter project has ended but you can still pre-order Adi at www.prodigikids.com
When it comes to eating with a toddler, having the right product can make mealtime enjoyable or a total disaster. Currently, the portable placemat products or bowls use adhesive or suction to affix to a table surface. However, a curious toddler can easily remove it and toss it aside.
That curious toddler turned out to be our 18 month old daughter. While dining out one day, she pulled a self-adhesive placemat off the table. Food went flying everywhere and landed on a man seated at the table behind us. There were peas stuck in his hair, meatballs on his head, and his nice white dress shirt was covered with spaghetti and red sauce. In that moment, the idea for Adi was born.
Adi is the perfect mealtime solution! Invented by Karen Weiss Kart, an attorney turned entrepreneur and mom of three, Adi is a stylish, modern, and whimsical stay-put plate that appeals to both kids and grownups. Your child will love the cute penguin shape, and you will cherish how well it works.
Adi is the only plate specifically engineered to stay in place. Its innovative design includes a strong suction base combined with a quick release tab allowing for easy removal, but...only by a grownup. The tab’s clever placement is out of sight + out of reach for curious little fingers. Together, they keep your child’s food in place on a table or high chair so you can enjoy a mess-free mealtime.
Adi is lightweight and portable for on-the-go parents and caregivers. Simply place the snap-tight lid on, toss it in your bag, and take it with you to a playdate, the park, or a restaurant. When you get home, you can keep leftovers in the fridge.
Prodigi Kids’ mission is to bring products into this world that bring families together and put a smile on the faces of kids and grownups everywhere. Adi is the perfect mealtime friend!
The support we receive from Kickstarter will allow us to buy production tools and order the first 5,000 units from the manufacturer. You can help bring Adi to life by pledging today.

Karen Weiss Kart, an attorney turned entrepreneur, founded Prodigi Kids in 2013. As a mother to three young children, she saw a need for a plate that couldn’t be picked up from the table and thrown around the room. Karen is a creative thinker who supports her ideas with serious analysis and a goal-oriented approach. She is passionate about putting products into the world that bring families together and make life easier. Her philosophy on life is that we should be fearless like a toddler in the pursuit of our dreams.
She holds a J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law and a B.A. from Rutgers University. Her first product won “Best New Invention” at the Moms In Business Unite conference in San Diego, California.
Our award-winning prototype was developed by a team of engineering students at UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering, one of the top 10 engineering schools in the country. Then, in 2013, we collaborated with M Industrial Design, an exceptional design firm, with experience designing top notch children’s products to create a more retail-ready prototype. This is the Adi that you see in our photographs and in our video.
We put a lot of time, attention, and love into every feature and detail of this product. We worked for years on Adi, iterating through 11 rounds of 3-D prototyping to find the perfect integration between the whimsical, fun aesthetic of the penguin design and high quality functionality. We tested it out on grownups and lots of kids to make sure that Adi does what it’s supposed to: make your life easier!
Currently, we are 100% done with the product development phase and happy to report that our patent was recently approved.
We’ve put everything we have into the making of this product, and we’re almost finished. The support we receive from Kickstarter will allow us to buy production tools and order the first production run of 5,000 units from the manufacturer. Our goal is to deliver the highest quality and safest product to your children, and we have built in time for testing of the plates and materials.
We have lined up a great team of proven professionals we can rely on and are ready to go. The production tools will be made by a company known for making high-quality injection mold tools for the world’s leading companies. They have worked closely with our manufacturer for the past 5 years. Our manufacturing partner is a local, family-owned facility with years of proven experience with a children’s feeding product and the rigorous industry standards for child safety. We will be overseeing every step of the production to ensure consistency of quality. As parents, we want the best for all of our kids.
We have the best mentors in the Universe, all of whom have significant experience in the children’s products industry who give freely of their time and expertise. We are forever grateful for their advice and support.
Now, all we need is your help to activate this amazing network. Any pledge amount brings us one step closer to our goal. Help us make Adi a reality by clicking the "Back This Project" button at the top of the page, and spread the word by sharing this page.

Risks and challenges
Our goal is to minimize any risks and make sure that the money you pledge is in the best of hands. We have built in extra time for the manufacturing process and are confident we will ship by the projected dates. But, there’s always a chance that things will take longer than planned. We are a transparent company and will notify you right away should this happen.
Our designer and manufacturer have been a great help at achieving the exact right technical specs on the materials and forms to ensure that we are fully ready to go to tooling. As we built this plate, we have tested it many times to make sure it will work and perform as expected. So, we are not worried about any major functional problems when we go into production.
We anticipate some tweaking with the first production run, and will be at the manufacturer during this critical stage to observe and guide. Barring anything unforeseen, Adi is good to go.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
