Headshots and Handcuffs
Is about 2 aspiring actors who are cops by day. After accidentally gaining internet fame they are promoted to the rank of Detective. It is then they decide to chronicle their daily lives and struggle to break into an acting career. The story follows Detective Johnny Flynt a tough talking Boston native with an obsession with 80’s action movies and his quest to play the “Alpha Male” in an action movie. His partner is Detective Dakota Steele a California pretty boy who desperately wants to become a serious actor and thinks he can be the next leading man in Hollywood. He does his best work when playing straight man to Flynt’s crazy aggressive persona. The detectives meet a series of diverse characters on their journey including a drug addicted celebrity, a Sci-Fi loving leading lady and the diabolical teenage son of a director. They are joined by “Homeless Mike”, who under the pretense of community service, is forced to film the bumbling detectives. In the end we see if these two idiots have what it takes to make it in a town where bumbling jerk-offs are kings.
Who is behind Headshots and Handcuffs?
Scot Ruggles who plays Johnny Flynt is originally from Massachusetts. Scot used to be a professional and college football coach. Scot left that behind six years ago when the acting world came into his life. He moved to LA and now pursues acting and is the Head Football Coach at one of the local private High schools.
Christopher Shafii who plays Dakota Steele is a native of CA. Chris is a former college and professional soccer player, who like Ruggles caught the acting bug and left the sports world behind. Chris is currently in LA and works as an actor and model. The two met in acting class and have bonded a friendship since then. The project came about from a brainstorm session over coffee. They decided to bring in Joe Maiale as the writer of the project. Maiale coaches on Ruggles staff and is currently writing a few screen plays.
The team and project are ready to go, we just need your help. We are regular guys, looking to make it in the acting world. We refuse to sit around and wait for this town to come a calling. So help us build it, and see if Hollywood comes a calling. We thank you in advance for your help and interest in our project.
Risks and challenges
Potential obstacles facing production are scheduling of actors and crew for weekend shoots (as we're working around people's other jobs) and the ability of our small crew to accomplish costuming or prop fabrication that would be handled by many times more people on a non-independent production. We're already preparing now, in advance of knowing whether or not or Kickstarter campaign will be funded. Our goal is to shoot 5-8 episodes that will make up season one.
We would love to shoot this like a current TV show, where we use a different director each episode. Also calling in favors to get a celeb or two to make a cameo. Having a budget will allow us to get qualified people, rent costumes, locations, and equipment which will make the project that much better. The more money you can help us the raise, the better product we can in return give back to you and the world. We really feel we have something fun and entertaining here. Please jump on board with us and make this dream a reality.
