Chickenface is a highly strategic card/board game to play with friends or family, from young children to the elderly. The game is packed with fun during the gameplay and boosted with hilarious moments at the end when the loser gets punished and wears the chicken mask (#chickenface). During hundredths of hours of testing, we found that somehow the game manages to make you laugh beyond control even if you mix players of totally different ages and backgrounds. That being said, the game is magic among families and tight circles of friends!
You play the game part of secret teams, initially not knowing who to fight or help. There are numerous funny weapons, challenges, and actions to perform. The game also has multiple destinations only known to the player, adjustable difficulty, and duration.
It starts slow and comfortable, but it soon gets critical and intense once teams and true faces are revealed, and powerful weapons emerge from the deeps of the deck! We illustrated a 4-player version in our campaign, but we’ll upgrade it to 6 players for free once we reach our stretch goals.
If you like Chicken, Giraffe ballerinas, and million-eyed Octopi, help us deliver this dose of fun to your living room!
So, you lay down the board by assembling the board cards, and then you separate the identity cards from the deck and shuffle the rest. You let each player choose a pawn color and an identity (faced down) and then you give them 5 additional cards from the deck (faced down). In the example above, you (blue) got 2 action cards, which allow you to move, one challenge card and two weapon cards.
You’re trying to make your way to your destination (stated on your identity card), in this case, “big mama”, while trying to figure out who’s on your side so you can slow your enemies down. You can find out the identity of the other players by waiting until it becomes clear where they are going (intersection point or “crossroads”) or you can use a weapon like the Ochiopus to choose a player and see his identity.
You can play any card at any time, but to win you have to be strategic. For instance, if you play the Ochiopus card to see someone’s identity and it turns out to be one of your enemies, you still don’t know who the other two players are. In this case, it’s best to use it on the player you suspect to be your ally.
How to win the game:
There are two ways of winning, depending on which version you choose from the rules book. The teamwork version is when you win the game and your other team member is furthest away from his goal. Your team member cannot be declared the loser because he might have helped you to win when realized he was fighting a losing battle. This way, the loser is the player furthest away from the goal in the opposing team. The other version is when every player is for himself and everybody can lose.
Whoever lost the game is subject to punishment. You can agree before the start of the game what that might be. If you play on drink shots, for instance, you can write a number on every punishment card and the loser picks one. If he cannot drink all the shots or refuses to do so, then you can upload his picture taken with the chickenface mask online. Tag: #chickenface. You can also make people wear the mask outside or for extended periods of time. The punishments can be anything you can write on the cards. Questions, ask to dance or sing etc.
We will increase the number of cards to adjust for 6 players accordingly, once we reach our stretch goals. The adult pack comes free of charge (once we reach our stretch goals) but the backer has to select it from the rewards. We allow this choice because some backers might order the game as a gift for children. The game can be played with the adult cards included or replacing the respective standard cards. This can also have an impact on the duration of the game and is explained in the rules book.
Adjustable difficulty and game duration:
Depending on the final pledged amount, we will improve the game by adjusting the number of cards, improve the design, add artworks etc. Currently, the game’s difficulty and duration can be increased or decreased by controlling the number of cards in play and their type. The game can last roughly a minimum of 20 minutes and a maximum of 60. This feature will be further improved with our stretch goals. Please read more about our “improvement based on the amount pledged” strategy in the risk and challenges section.
We set to create this project with one goal in mind. To make people laugh and have fun playing our game. We knew this wasn’t possible without adding strategy to the game and make it available for all ages. For our friends, the game was really funny when one of us couldn’t work out intelligent moves or ruined the game for the other team member. We found that children are very attracted to the artworks while playing the cards, and they laugh before they even see the other players reacting. Together, when we mixed adults and children we laughed at each other’s reactions.
Help us make this game a reality and fill the internet with #chickenface tags. Every one of the tags means joy and fun, and we want to share that with you!
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter campaign and we are doing our best to avoid any production or shipping delays. The estimated delivery of the rewards is April 2019 but we set this as a precaution in case of unexpected delays. Due to the nature of the game, we can have more delays in the production of the mask, box, inserts etc. than printing the game cards. We actually expect to deliver the game much sooner and surprise our backers.
Leaving the backers with priority rewards aside, some backers can potentially receive the game sooner than others, depending on their locations.
The 14 days refund policy means that we can refund your full amount within 14 days of the end of the campaign. If you decide you want a refund after the 14-day period, we will refund your pledge minus the Kickstarter and payment fees (these fees cannot be recovered from Kickstarter after 14 days). We cannot refund your pledge once we sent the order for your game to be printed. However, we estimate this to happen at least one month after the end of the campaign so you have enough time to change your mind. We can still refund exceptional cases after this period, but this is down to our discretion.
If a game is not delivered in the expected timeframe, we will resend the order with another copy or refund the full pledge amount, according to the backer’s choice.
Refunds are normally reversed to the backer’s card, but they can also be done via Paypal after the 14-day period. Remember that we funded the project in British Pounds (GBP) and we will refund the exact amount in the same currency including or excluding Kickstarter fees, depending on when the refund is requested.
We are kindly asking you to consider whether you really want the game before you make the pledge. Refunds requested for no reason or simply change of heart can really hurt us and cause delays for the other backers, as this is our first Kickstarter Campaign.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The final design of the box, cards, and all the game components can be different to what you see in the live project. If this happens, we prefer not to mention it before and ruin the surprise.

You must reply to any request of information within one month of receiving notification from us (via email) in order to cut on delays and help deliver the game to every backer sooner than expected. We can still fulfill our obligations to you if you don’t reply in the one-month period, but that is down to our discretion.
