About this project
'Brianna was a girl of six who made cards for her valentine picks. She made them for classmates, she made them for teachers. She made them for family and all her pet creatures.
Yet she still had her most important one to do, for this year she was sending one to Santa Claus too.' - an excerpt from A Valentine for Santa
6 years ago my eldest daughter announced that she wanted to make a valentine for Santa (though she claims to have no recollection of this now). I knew right away that this was an excellent starting point for a children's book and started writing it.
It didn't take long to finish writing the story, however I knew something was wrong so I shelved it. Recently, it started bubbling to the surface of my consciousness just itching to be made real.
Having read many books to my kids over the years, I knew I wanted my book to flow well when read aloud. Unfortunately, my writing at that time wasn't up to par so it read poorly. I went through and rewrote 90% of the book keeping only the essence and a few chance lines that happened to work.
It was worth the wait. The story is solid and flows well when read aloud.
I am raising funds to pay for all the expenses that arrise when bringing a book to fruition such as printing, ISBN number, marketing etc.
The goal of $2000 is for releasing a paperback edition. However, I would prefer also making it a hardcover, but that is more expensive. Therefore I have a stretch goal of $5000. If that is reached I will release it as a hardcover as well.
Risks and challenges
One of the potential challenges to bringing this book to life is making sure the illustrations really capture what the story is about. Being the author I have an intimate knowledge of this story and I am an experienced visual artist. This will help ensure that the illustrations live up to the story.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
