About

Very sorry I was not able to get a video-together for you all, but considering I was born with a "Face for Radio" ;0), take my word for it - the last 12-weeks were MUCH BETTER SPENT focused on Designing/Perfecting the Books and the articles therein!

In 1999, as a young Mormon, return-missionary from Idaho in Art School, was totally terrified that I'd be 'corrupted' by having to take Life-Drawing Classes, but soon discovered one of the most wholesome and least awkward experiences of my life! In fact, drawing/sculpting people in the nude was less weird then being at church, where "if you're single, you're shopping!".

A year or so later, a friend at school asked if I'd considered photographing her in the nude. After being interested in photography for 15-years, the idea intrigued me, but presented what seemed like a big challenge. Well, as in the previous case, it turned out to be nearly effortless, making very pretty images, and really came down to finding a mental medium of exchange with the model, using their body as a shape for their personality. A few more great people came along, but after graduation, it seemed like time to "get a real job" in my chosen field of digital-animation.

Sadly, after 911, tech industries became difficult and companies started outsourcing jobs in my field to India and Russia. Strangely enough, Photography was there for me and a few good jobs for big companies came along, (and numerous opportunities to photograph lots of awesome new people - from all walks of life).

Since the technique and experience was half the fun, I began using/borrowing nearly every system available to see what results would come out - over 15 different systems in all from an old Sony Mavica Digital early-on, clear up to very high-end equipment like Sinar 4x5, Hasselblad, Professional Nikon Underwater, Canon 1Ds (MK I & II) and even Holgas, Vintage-Equipment, Pinhole-Cameras and some Makeshift/Homemade setups.

Of the Film work, over 2/3 of the darkroom I did myself, and all of the Drum-Scanning and Editing. All in all, 9-Years and over 100 Models later, The Virgin's Eye Project went from a fun diversion, to a time of artistic and philosophical discovery.

The Books divide the best images (279 in all) into 5 categories:

• "Women in Black and White" (monochromatic, duo-tone and sepia),

• "Women in Color" (E6-slidefilm, cross-processed and digital),

• "Men" (lots of very pretty men!),

• "Chemistry" (multiple models - couples, friends and mothers & babies),

&

• "Special Effects" (exciting-lighting, props, post-production techniques and location advice).

In addition to displaying the images, each book also delves into practical info about Camera Systems, Lenses and technical/compositional techniques, as well as discussions on relating to models of various talents & temperaments.

Thanks so much from myself and all the models for your interest! We had an amazing time doing this work. Looking back on it, it almost doesn't even seem real.

Perhaps reality is overrated! Maybe, come join us in our "Surreality" - The water is great!

P.S. To any of you that followed me and bought prints from the old website - virginseye.com (2003-2008), you literally kept a roof over my head and gas in my car several months during that time - Thank You!

Risks and challenges

The publisher printing the books for me has come through beautifully on three other projects, and has excellent Q.C./support.

The Bonus Print production I'm handling personally and after 20+ years doing it (6-years running my own printing business in Southern California/Nevada), complications should be minimal and easily-handled.

I'll need to take orders for at least 10 of each book to get a volume-discount sufficient to make the jobs affordable, but it is a relatively low number.

The primary hurdle is the smaller, Non-Profit/Economy set of books that I must take at least 20 orders for to be able to offer. As stated in the reward notice, should there not be enough interest in that product to produce it, each backer - will be contacted about switching their order to 2 of the normal, larger books (with their bonus L.E. print-rewards). There is an additional $9 difference that would need to be billed/mailed-in, but even in this case, the orders can be substituted with the better product.
