Our fulfillment partner is based out of New Zealand, like us. As a result, we are bound by the cost of shipping and the tyranny of distance. We’ve explored some offshore fulfillment options for international orders, but many of these require a minimum order amount which we will not know for certain until our campaign ends and if it is successful in reaching the funding goal. As such, we have to assume we will be dispatching all orders from NZ.
With our first book Promised Land we decided to upgrade the books to a hardcover first edition and absorbed the cost of additional shipping to thank our backers for supporting the first book. However, the cost of shipping Hardcover books is significantly higher and we found it caused people not to buy it. Paperbacks are more affordable to ship and manufacture, but we may look into offering an upgrade for a Hardcover edition if we raise enough funds and if backers indicate they want this in their surveys.
Yes, you can purchase the Paperback edition of 'Promised Land' (and more) separately at www.promisedlandstore.com
Please note that any physical copies of 'Promised Land' that are included as part of Rewards in the 'Maiden Voyage' Kickstarter campaign will be shipped once 'Maiden Voyage' is completed next year (est. June 2018).
We’ve said 5-10 year olds, but the age of our first book has also skewed younger. We’ve said this because from the age of 5, children meet LGBTQ parents when they start school and may start asking questions. Books like 'Promised Land' and 'Maiden Voyage' can help as a conversation starter.
Absolutely not! We believe that the more young people who grow up seeing LGBTQ relationships represented in media and the world around them, the less likely they are to bully or discriminate against their LGBTQ peers. In fact, a large proportion of the people who have bought 'Promised Land' to date are heterosexual parents who are wanting to raise tolerant and accepting young people.
