Please note: Kickstarter counts your shipping costs as part of the total raised. To ensure we have enough to cover our project minimum costs, our funding goal accounts for this.

A brand new tale of discovery about the importance of truth, family and love.
MAIDEN VOYAGE is the second in a series of LGBTQ inclusive children's books. Written by Jaimee Poipoi, Adam Reynolds & Chaz Harris with illustrations by Christine Luiten & Bo Moore, it is the follow-up to PROMISED LAND, released in February 2017.
The first edition of MAIDEN VOYAGE will be a full color illustrated storybook aimed at 5-10 year olds with an expected release date during June 2018 (Pride Month).
We’re fundraising through Kickstarter to cover the upfront costs of editing, illustrating, designing and printing a limited 1st Edition. Diverse books like ours face an uphill battle to publication. Campaigns like this one are the best way to prove there is demand, and make children's literature more inclusive.

If we surpass our funding target then everyone who has pre-ordered a copy of Maiden Voyage (either Printed or eBook) via this Kickstarter will receive the following for FREE (depending on how many stretch goals we reach):

With ‘Promised Land Tales’, we’re committed to creating the kind of children’s books that we needed to see when we were growing up. Through collaborations with authors of other queer identities, we hope to tell more stories that never were, but always should have been.
In the Promised Land universe, all are equal - no matter their gender, what they look like or who they love. We believe it’s important for LGBTQ youth and their peers to see themselves represented in positive ways, where who they are is not questioned or used as a plot device. Visibility in media is a powerful way to show our young people they belong; if we don’t see ourselves in stories, we don’t see ourselves in the world.
We invite you to step aboard and join us on this journey to bring a little more kindness and love into the world. Because love is love, and everyone deserves to live happily ever after.

In Maiden Voyage, a fisherman's daughter called Ru inherits a map from her father and joins the crew of the courageous Captain Freya. Setting sail to discover the map's destination, a bond between them soon forms into love.
Pursuing them on their high seas adventure is a fierce band of pirates led by Captain Crow, bewitched by the wicked Queen Neva. As her past threatens to catch up with her, 'The Queen of Lies' is determined to keep her dark secret from surfacing.

The following is a breakdown of how the Kickstarter funds will be spent if we reach our initial funding target:

Risks and challenges
A book like this involves countless hours of collaboration between the authors, illustrators, designer, editor, proofreader and printers.
We’ve got a great team back on board. We completed the first book 'Promised Land' with illustrators Christine & Bo and formed a good working relationship through that collaboration.
Our printing partner on the first book was BookPrint who are based in Auckland, New Zealand. They did an awesome job in helping us ensure it was of a high quality and we’re looking forward to working with them again for Maiden Voyage (and hopefully more!)
We’ve confirmed that our timeline is realistic for completing all of the illustration/design work in time for our anticipated release next June. As we did the first time around, we’ll be keeping our backers informed throughout the process with updates, including notifying you of any potential delays.
Since the release of 'Promised Land', we've found a local fulfilment partner which allows us to process and dispatch your books even faster once they've arrived! We've explored international fulfilment partners and distributors, but we're currently too small to meet their requirements. As a result, our books will need to be dispatched from New Zealand.
