About this project
The Blog Peoria Project is an Internet-based, neighborhood-centered community journalism project. Peoria is served by a daily newspaper, The Peoria Journal Star (owned by GateHouse Media), which has dumped all but a handful of its reporters. Two of television stations have completely merged operations. A third handles the news for the fourth. Neighborhood news has dwindled to nearly nothing. We will pick up the slack. We have a main news site that does the in-depth reporting the mainstream media will not do. We offer blogs for anyone in the city who needs one. We offer the technical help the others do not, as well as the journalism mentoring others can not provide (one of the organizers has more than 20 years experience as a reporter and editor in small daily and weekly newspapers). We need support for Internet access and site hosting, as well as professional site development through wpmu.com.
