We follow three competitive gamers to explore the re-emergence of the nearly extinct fighting game community of the 1990's.
Hello all! This is Peter Livingston. I'm spearheading this documentary on competitive gaming and I want to personally thank you for taking the time to look into our project. Hopefully you'll feel inspired to support our project so we can continue to film our subjects as they travel the globe, competing in the 2012 Evolution Tournament series.
Interesting. Tell me about the film...
For one weekend in July, thousands of the top fighting game players from around the world gather in Las Vegas, Nevada to compete in the “Super Bowl” of fighting game tournaments: Evolution (EVO). Thousands pack the halls of the Rio Hotel and hundreds of thousands watch live over the internet, as players battle it out to see who is the best in the world. Covering the history of arcades and competitive gaming, the humble beginnings of the Evolution tournament, and following some of the worlds top players as they compete for the title of “best in the world” our film will take you inside a sub-culture that continues to grow yearly.
Ok. What do you want...
Our goal is to raise $11,000 for our film! In the grand scheme of film making, this is very little. Almost non-existant. Titanic? $200 million. Our film? $11,000. Juno? $10 million. Our film? $11,000.
We know a lot of you out there love arcades, video games, or documentaries (all of the above is a huge plus!) and we hope you will want to contribute to creating a film (and possibly see your name in the credits!).
Go on...Where will the funds will go...
Almost 100% of the funds are going towards travel expenses: plane tickets, gas, food, and hotels. In case of an emergency, we will save a little extra if we need to replace a lighting kit or lens via RENTAL.
Love it! But wait...why should I give you my money?
You know that kid in high school who would always ask you for a dollar? He probably never gave you your dollar back, huh? Annoying right? Well, thats not us. We'll actually give you something in return for donating your hard earned dollars! We have a great selection of prizes that will be made from our own blood, sweat, and tears (mostly tears). We offer these gifts as a token of appreciation for your dollars.
Take a look at the sidebar for more details! The more dollars you donate the better the prizes! Plus, you'll get to watch a sweet documentary knowing YOU HELPED MAKE IT POSSIBLE.
You should also donate if you're nostalgic about dark, damp, video arcades of the 80's and 90's. You miss slamming down quarters to say you're next. And you think that the video game sub-culture should get some more exposure.
What we've done so far...
We have been filming our subjects since the Summer of 2011. We have followed them up and down California, Nevada, and even over to Japan. There is a lot more traveling to be done as the Evolution 2012 Tournament Season is officially underway. With tournaments around the globe and other subjects across the US, travel costs tend to add up very quickly. We plan to follow them through the Summer of 2012 ending with Evolution 2012 tournament in Las Vegas, NV.

As people donate their money, it is moved to and held in an Amazon account via KickStarter until the deadline date. If we reach our goal or exceed our goal then we get the money! If we fail to reach our goal (Heaven forbid!) then the money is disbursed back to everybody's accounts. No harm done. Accept I might cry.
