"Folk Told Me: Audio/Visual G" is the Album Soundtrack to an Original Musical Sci-Fi Afro-Futurist Graphic Novel
Hello Everybody! I will be travelling to South Africa in March to conceive/ compose/ record a concept album with my Johannesburg based band FOLK TOLD ME. Our sound is a combination of black folk/indigenous music mixed with hip-hop, rock, electronica and jazz.
WHAT IT IS: A musical album that will serve as the soundtrack to an afro-futurist science fiction graphic novel that I am also illustrating.
WHAT WE ARE RAISING FUNDS FOR:
$5,500 is the Minimum we need to raise towards
▪ A Sound Engineer
▪ Rehearsal Space
▪ Repairing some of our broken instruments
▪ Paper, pencils, ink, and light boxes for the graphic novel illustrations
THE MUSIC will orchestrate the story. The story is loosely based on folklore and histories of the African Diaspora. The band will be playing different characters through song, rap verse, and instrumentation
WHO IS FOLK TOLD ME? Folk Told Me is a band of melodic sankofa martians, spinning stories like hip hop griots doomed to this place called earth, traveling in sound sparring with myopic modes of being…freeing. . . Ngakana The Last Percussionist, Gugulethu Bodibe, Tshepiso Maleke, Legae Blaky Huxx and Jazzmen Lee-Johnson
