About this project

The Great American Outdoor Story is a television series that celebrates a unique type of literature that was "made in America." The outdoor story was invented in our country because, for the first time, a man or woman could hunt and fish on public land and, with permission, private land without fear of prosecution.  This was not the case in the United Kingdom.or Europe in general, since land was owned by the Crown and aristocracy, and poaching was considered a crime.

Outdoor literature unites everyone who has an abiding love of the outdoors. We, the creators and producers of The Great American Outdoor Story, are excited and honored to present some of the greatest outdoor stories ever written by writers such as Corey Ford, Zane Grey, Nash Buckingham, Theodore Roosevelt, and others.  And we're presenting these wonderful stories in a fresh and exciting way: a unique approach to storytelling that lends itself to television. We are calling this "narrative television."

Outdoor celebrities and some Hollywood legends are our storytellers.. Rich cinematography by award winning directors draw the viewer to experience the outdoor story on a visceral level by engaging the imagination to 'see' the story unfold. Music by some of America's most talented composers adds the vital elements of richness and depth to the total experience.

We are asking you to assist us with our production costs.  We are currently in post-production on the first story in our series, Corey Ford's "The Road to Tinkhamtown," widely considered one of the greatest outdoor stories ever written. We are giving you a taste of what's to come in the video clip here.

Please, join us and become a part of the movement to establish outdoor literature as an American literary innovation, America's native form of literature, and help us carry the torch that illuminates our country's literary legacy.

THANK YOU for your interest and support, for your helping us meet our Kickstarter goal of $25,000...and for contributing to our vision.

Risks and challenges

As with any new venture, challenges--whether expected or unanticipated--are an ever-present undercurrent to the work. We have put together a highly talented and experienced team of professional writers, filmmakers and performance artists, supported by a marketing group to help us meet our financial goals. How and when "The Road to Tinkhamtown" will air is already in the process. We have begun the proposal phase with American Public Television/PBS and are hopeful. As for completion of "The Road to Tinkhamtown " as a DVD, we anticipate the finished DVDs on or about the beginning of June--and with your support, even sooner. Thanks again for your interest and consideration and, in advance, your financial support.
