About this project
Tell hilariously creative stories using off-the-wall plot points and tropes spanning all of fiction. Spin a better yarn than your friends to become the Master Storyteller!
Five Hundred Cards, Millions of Stories!
Plot Twist is a storytelling card game for four to six players. All players are Storytellers and stitch together Plot Cards, combined with a little imagination, to tell short stories prompted by Trope Cards.
Trope Cards provide a familiar story prompt inspired from all over fiction, media, and history. Storytellers use this information to tell a story using their hand of Plot Cards.
Plot Cards contain tired clichés, action beats, random events, and hilarious happenings. Storytellers stitch together as many Plot Cards as they need to tell their version of the selected Trope Card prompt, making up the events between cards as they go. Stories can be simple tales, outrageous romps, or outright-insane cartoons – as long as you can justify the Plot Cards you use in your story, you can use them however you'd like!
After all Storytellers have told their stories for the round, they cast votes for their favorite stories of the round. Votes in Plot Twist are weighted – you get three Story Point Cards to use each round and you can give them out however you want. Feel free to spread your votes around to multiple Storytellers, or give all three to your favorite story!
The story with the most votes at the end of each round wins that round's Trope Card as a point. The Storyteller with the most points at the end of the game is crowned the Master Storyteller – and the winner of the game!
Here's a few examples of stories you can tell, featuring some talented Storyteller friends of mine.
If you want to give Plot Twist a try right now, I've made a Print and Play PDF available for you to download and play. The Plot Twist PnP is formatted like Cards Against Humanity's PnP – it's in a tiny, square, plain black-and-white format, but contains the entire game – all 500 cards – to play. If you have access to a printer, and can trick enough of your friends into helping you cut it out, you can play Plot Twist tonight and back this Kickstarter tomorrow!
Plot Twist contains 500 poker-sized 2.5 by 3.5 inch cards, broken down into 62 Trope Cards, 420 Plot Cards, and 18 Story Point Cards. The game will also come in a two-piece box about the size of the box used by Cards Against Humanity or The Metagame (box design to be determined).
To print Plot Twist, I'll need to raise $14,000.00. This amount will pay for a minimum print run of the game from AdMagic, the printer of that famous card game Cards Against Humanity that you may have heard of. I've added an additional 8-10% to cover Kickstarter and payment fees, as well as additional taxes and fees.
Plot Twist is almost completely finished – every Plot Card and Trope Card has been written, proofread, and thoroughly playtested. Once this campaign has finished, it won't take much additional time to collect the files together to send off for printing. With your help, Plot Twist can soon feature at the center of your future game night!
There are several pledge levels available for Plot Twist:

My name is Darrell M. Stark. I'm 29 years old, damn tall, and solidly awesome (and obviously humble). I'm new to game design, but not new to creative projects – I've been drawing comics and posting them online for more than a decade and have been making a living as a graphic designer in New York City for the past five years, and back home in Galloway, New Jersey before that.
As soon as I had the idea for Plot Twist in December 2013, I started attending panels and introducing myself to game designers at conventions, as well as diving into the local game design community and learning as much as I could to make sure I could make Plot Twist the best game I could make.
I've playtested Plot Twist over 100 times in the past two and a half years with all sorts of people – my New York City group (mostly the r/nyc Redditors – you all know who you are), my friends from back home in Galloway, as well as fellow game designers I've met more recently, have been a huge help and a huge support. Conventions like Metatopia and PAX East, events like The Sheep's Meow's NYC and NJ Arcades, and local groups like the NYU Gamecenter and the NYC Playtest group, have helped me make Plot Twist what it is today.
With your support, this game is going to be amazing, and I can't thank you enough!
Any support you can give me toward funding Plot Twist would be greatly appreciated. Please tweet this campaign to your friends on Twitter, share this with your friends on Facebook, post pictures of your game group playing the free Print and Play to Instagram, and use all those other social media things I don't quite understand to spread the word.
Feel free to post one (or all) of these messages to Twitter or Facebook!

Risks and challenges
This is my first Kickstarter project, but I've spent the last year and a half researching successful and failed Kickstarter campaigns, reading Kickstarter postmortems and blogs to learn what people usually miss, and talking to other game designers about their campaigns.
Plot Twist is entirely written and designed, so I don't expect there being any delay after the campaign finishes – I can send the files off to the printer almost immediately. AdMagic, the printer I plan to use, is well known for their professionalism and quality in regards to printing.
I believe I'm prepared for anything that can happen, but there are always unexpected things like manufacturing delays, shipping troubles, and occasional writer's block – I promise to keep you all informed if anything crops up.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
