Here Today Here Tomorrow is a sustainable fashion studio shop based in London. At the heart of what we do is the consideration of ethical and traceable production, high quality materials and beautiful contemporary design.

We believe a fair and sustainable approach to fashion is desperately needed as an alternative to cheap, throw-away fast fashion, with all the negative impacts this has to people and planet. We create stylish, high quality, fairly made products that our customers will not only love wearing but also feel good about buying and will cherish for years to come.

The funding from this Kickstarter campaign will allow us to work with fair trade producers in Nepal, revitalise the traditions of beautiful hand woven textiles and develop our first capsule collection of Here Today Here Tomorrow womenswear.

For your support we offer you the chance to be the first to own a piece from this exclusive collection. These include beautiful accessories and bags, a stylish top or pair of cropped trousers. Scroll down to see more images from the collection.

Revitalising Traditional Skills

There is more to this story than just wanting to create a new range of garments. On our last visit to Nepal we discovered a small selection of beautiful cotton textiles and found out it was was dhaka fabric - a traditional hand woven Nepalese cloth. Despite working in Nepal for three years we had never seen this fabric before.

Dhaka combines a unique weaving technique with striking geometric patterns and colour combinations, creating a distinctive and high quality textile. We immediately saw the huge potential of these fabrics and recognised the skill and craftsmanship that had gone into making them.

However we were amazed to see these stunning fabrics hidden away, and shocked to learn that due to a decline in demand the tradition of dhaka weaving is at risk of being lost and the skilled artisans that produce it risk losing their livelihoods.

Through this project, and with your support, we intend to help our producers revitalise this weaving technique, protecting their cultural heritage and creating desirable fashion products for a new audience.

Fair Trade

At Here Today Here Tomorrow we are dedicated to the highest standard of ethical production, following fair trade principles. On our first visit to Nepal we were delighted to find the Association for Craft Producers (ACP) in Kathmandu. ACP are accredited members of the World Fair Trade Organisation and we were immediately impressed by their fair trade values and commitment to their workers wellbeing and the environment.

We chose to work in Nepal through our previous experience travelling there. We were drawn to it’s beautiful culture and landscape, it’s heritage of craftsmanship, and the kind, good-humoured people we met there.

Nepal is also one of the poorest countries in the world. By working with producers there we support many female artisans, their families and their wider communities. ACP encourages and organises women to turn their traditional craft skills into a profession.

These women earn a fair wage from their craft, making a substantial contribution to their household income and enabling them to work from home meaning they remain an integral part of their family life. Apart from being economically self-sufficient, working in this way brings other transformations to the producers lives as ACP provides medical service, educational support for their children, maternity and paternity leave and retirement funds. What's more these women gain more self-confidence and are able to command a greater degree of respect from other members of their family.

With your help we can continue to work alongside these talented weavers, pattern cutters and sewers - growing our relationship with the wonderful artisans, empowering women to provide for their families, revitalising their traditional craft and promoting a fairer and more sustainable approach to fashion.

Main Aims of Funding

Visit Nepal to work with our producers in person. We recognise the importance of developing a relationship of mutual trust and responsibility with our producer group and the best way to do this is to visit and work with them personally at least once a year.

Work with ACP to source organic cotton for future collections. Currently ACP does not have a source of organic cotton, but this is a very important element of our brand values and ethos and crucial for us to secure for the future.

Develop the dhaka textiles womenswear range to include new styles and colours. Slowly over the last year we have developed first samples of the collection, that you see pictured here, but we now need to expand this further and introduce new designs.

Place orders to provide work to the weavers and artisans in Nepal. Not only does this provide them with much needed economic security, but helps to revitalise the dying dhaka craft.

Bring the collection to a new audience in the UK and internationally. We believe there is great potential for these beautiful, well-designed, well made products in todays market. Not only that but they have a great story that really engages our customers and allows them to support a fairer fashion industry.

Risks and challenges

We have been working with our fair trade producer group in Nepal for over three years and know the production process well. You can rest assured that this isn’t our first time producing a collection and between us we have extensive industry experience of the different stages involved in seeing a collection through from initial design to finished product. Yet we appreciate that there can always be unforeseen difficulties and know that one of the biggest challenges we face will be with meeting the deadlines of our production schedule. There are timing risks involved in all fashion production processes, and we are aware of the potential delays that could happen during quality control checks or during our shipping process.

We have pre-anticipated and minimized these risks by planning well ahead with our production schedule to allow extra time for any minor unexpected delays. We have already worked with our producers to make the first samples of our collection meaning we will be in a good position to build the range from this point.

On top of this, our campaign supporters will be kept well informed during each stage so they know exactly where their rewards are and how the project is progressing. Our fair trade ethos and ethical principles extend from our production to our customer service, to ensure both the products we make and the service we provide will delight our customers.
