About

Our goal, as stated in the video, is to establish permanent human colony at the edge of space up high in the Stratosphere. But before we can even do that we have to take care of everyday human basic needs here on Earth using the technology that we have dreamed up and the technologies we have inherited from others. To meet the every day needs of the people we know and of a world that we care for today  and into  the future is what this project was all about.

We must begin our tasks by focusing on transporting cargoes before we can transport people to the edge of space with balloon technology.

We know that thin wall common plastic is the best material for large balloon and hydrogen is the best buoyant gas. 

And here are the difficulties, thin wall common plastic can easily be ripped. A light wind gust can rip open and let out buoyant gas from a balloon before it even leaves the ground. And hydrogen gas is, well, explosive. The favourite alternative is helium but helium is rare and therefore quite expensive and will be far more expensive as soon as other uses than party balloons arise.

This is where our air launch platform comes in. We launch hydrogen balloons in the air while floating at the same speed, there is no wind gust and no wind shear. And if our buoyant gas ever ignites, it would be too high and too far away to even break a window.

The application for thin wall high altitude balloons are many. We have mentioned Google balloons for beaming mobile internet. Thin wall telecommunication balloons can replace expensive satellites that are littering low earth orbits with ten of thousands of space debris, circling around the Earth at ten thousands miles per hour. Closer to home, single use thin wall hydrogen balloons  are much cheaper than helicopter or helium airship in bringing supplies to people in need where there is no road access or where roads are damaged. It suffices releasing them anywhere upwind along with a simple retrieving system such as a tethered drone.

Our materials for this proof of concept air launching project will be low cost off the shelf hot air balloons. And we will use helium throughout, not actual hydrogen to insure safety and mitigate risks of catastrophic failure. 

Risks and challenges

We believe too much in the future of thin wall hydrogen balloons to risk it. With your help we will bring affordable internet, cellular phone and other​ services to people everywhere while girdling ourselves together for the true tasks of space exploration.
