About this project
Risks and challenges
Here is a description of risks and challenges for this project:
TECHNICAL: From the sub to the buoy technical risk is minimal. HD video, audio and controlling commands through fiber optic cable does not represent high technical risk. Communication from buoy to onshore internet access point has been established for over 5 miles which means that we are currently restricted to "close to onshore access points" locations to begin with. The upcoming challenge will be to design our comm link with well defined locational mobile network operators with effective engineering design. 4G technology (as it becomes more available worldwide) will enable further location deployment.
LATENCY: (the time an internet packet takes to travel from the submarine to your computer and back to the sub) by far is the most important and challenging part of an immersive experience. Our risk here is to deal with a delay between piloting and the submarine movement. We will optimize everything for latency, but there will be a small latency because of internet lag. Our strategy is focused on developing an interface that can diminish the effect on the users perception.
OPERATION: Continuous operation and working all day long presents risk. There are several risks to consider including disconnections to power sources. Natural risks include cloudy underwater days as ocean visibility changes daily with conditions varying day to day. We are going to be on location providing security and maintenance to the operation as we scale up.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We have already 3 choices, but we are looking for more available places that fullfil the requirements. If you think of one just sent us a line and we will be glad to look at it. Location will be kept in secret until first diving and platform launching, so you can get surprised at that time. Kickstarter backers are invited to be part of the council defining next locations for Acquatico.
We expect to be fully functional by 2nd Qtr 2013 but some early birds will be allowed to test beforehand.
Nope! You just need a phone, tablet or computer with a web browser and internet connection.
Manufacturing and shipping will take from 1 to 2 months, depending on the amount of requests we have. We will keep you posted on its production and put a lot of love into each personalized submarine.
In the short term we are going to have only one submarine diving underwater. But later we expect to have many more in all of the marine environments that can be interesting to explore around the world. We want to join DIY models so submarines can be deployed worldwide and connected.
Yes, anyone can operate it, but in the case of children it would be good to have an adult accompany them. You have to remember that your expedition will be seen by hundreds of people, so don’t waste your opportunity!
Of course, that’s what this is all about, to share your undersea discoveries with others. Just make it social and invite friends from your favorite’s social networks!
You will have the right to schedule up to 10 timeslots at a time, after using all of them you will get them back and be able to schedule again unlimited times.
It is a PASSENGER of a mission, it can participate by real time viewing the mission. To control you need to be a Pilot.
