The manufacturer, BGM, has quoted me at $16 for shipping outside of the US. Shipping inside the US was quoted at $14. However, since the majority of my backers will be in the US, I'm using Amazon Fulfillment Services to ship within the US, hence the cheaper shipping costs.
I could have used Amazon for shipping across the world: but I would need to make shipments to several warehouses throughout the world, instead of the one warehouse in the US. This, in turn, increases the shipping costs as I'd have to distribute out the bulk order.
If I barely meet my goal of 250 backers, it would be more expensive to ship internationally via Amazon than in shipping using BGM.
As a small-time hobbyist game creator, I don't have the marketing or reputation to expect much more backers beyond 250, so I had to stick with BGMs shipping costs.
If I do far exceed my 250 backer goal, I will probably ship across the world using Amazon as the cost of shipping will decrease with a bigger bulk order. However, Kickstarter doesn't allow pledge amounts to change once they've been made: so I cannot decrease the cost of shipping.
To all my international backers and friends: I apologize for this inconvenience... as you can see, I had to weigh my risks and challenges and make a hard decision. I'm so so sorry if, in the end, that decision was the wrong one.
