"Wake Up, We're Here" will be the first book created by the photo collective the Analog Sunshine Recorders (ASR). Everyone is invited to take the visual journey and follow 8 people with cameras in a single van for 18 days, crossing 3000 miles of the great American Landscape.
What started out as a photo exhibit in a local Honolulu cafe has grown into numerous shows in Honolulu, workshops, and meetups, drawing people towards creative crossroads with their cameras and a common love for the lo-fi and analog. From polaroid camera scavenger hunt bingo, DIY pinhole camera exhibitions, to building a mobile camera out of a van and flatbed scanner, ASR has been the perfect excuse for people to get out there and explore their world.
This book will be the largest project to date for ASR and we are seeking your support to accomplish it. "Wake Up, We're Here" is a limited edition, 6x9" book made for your coffee table, and will comprise of 64 awesome pages of roadtrip goodness in all its caffeinated glory.
We've bought the ticket and will now take the ride, traveling from L.A. and the Magical Kingdom up to San Francisco and up the Pacific Coast Highway, to Portland and Seattle, over to Yellowstone, down to the Grand Canyon, and as many things as we can see in-between. It's the American road trip - and everyone's invited.
More than just a coffee table book of beautiful landscape imagery, this book will be the perspectives of 8 unique travelers, people just like you. Our group is composed of professional and non-professionals alike, some with art degrees and some with degrees in karate, to a 9 year-old little girl who is still on the fence about Santa Clause.
Our financial goal of $4000 is not for 4,000 double cheeseburgers, because with tax we could only buy maybe 3,600. This is a great opportunity to get a book published from such a unique experience. Once it's published, proceeds from the sale of the book go back to funding future projects with the collective, developing opportunities for future exhibitions, meetups, and independent art books - like this one!
This book is inspired by travel and celebrates the idea that we are all visitors and being a tourist isn't always a bad cliche. Sometimes it's a good cliché!
We hope this book will inspire and give back and motivate people to get out there and explore the world. We can humbly say this opportunity is mind-opening to us and we look forward to the journey of creating this book and a platform for future projects.

Risks and challenges
It goes without saying that publishing a book is a challenge. There can be snags and detours anywhere between the design, layout, proofing, printing, and delivery. Luckily our collective backgrounds are as diverse as our interests and we are working together as a team to make sure we meet our deadlines and reach our goals.
We couldn't do this without the support of the community and we hope our incentives show that. Rest assured we are not locking anyone one person in a darkroom to master the limited prints. Instead we are locking several people in the dark room because we appreciate deadlines and when the mailman hand delivers odd-shaped packages directly to your door.
Despite having ginormous imaginations, we are confident our goals are realistic and incentives are doable.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
