The Story Behind
Our names are Peter Mann and Nick McGibbon and we are creators of the xHead extruder
The xHead was designed to address specific problems associated with 3d printing. Namely, the hassle of fixed resolutions, head cleaning, clogged nozzles and messy tape on the heater block.
Rather then waste time complaining, we simply decided to solve the issues we raised. From the initial concept to the first prototype, the xHead surpassed both our expectations. We were so happy with the results, we immediately filed a provisional patent for our invention.
The xHead is uniquely designed to allow complete cleaning of ALL internal cavities. We tested this by clogged the entire assembly, including the nozzle, let it harden - then attempted a repair. Not only did our design clean easily, we put the head back on to reprint with it!

The resolution adjustment, is also designed to go completely through the nozzle, allowing cleaning without removing the print head! At this point the resolution / cleaning adjustment is manual; we are designing a servo motor based system that we anticipate being able to offer at higher rewards levels.
The thermal jacket is injection molded and the realized heat efficiency numbers will all be uploaded during the campaign. In fact we intend to upload all the images and videos of our prototype testing as questions are posed and responses required.

Even though the xHead can be made with cheaper base materials, we opted out of that approach. The xHead is made with high quality components and cnc miiled by Geometrix a leader in micro machining and a proven track record in design and supply.
We will be uploading images and updates throughout the manufacturing process.

Risks and challenges
We reasonably do not forsee any risks associated with this product.
The prototypes have all exceeded their design expectation and we are looking forward to getting these out to our first batch of backers asap.
Further, by allowing backers to be walked through the manufacturing process we anticipate sharing any issues or concerns and getting valuable feedback
All prototyping images and videos will also be posted as the campaign continues.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
