About this project
Above the Fold was born from a collective enthusiasm for the arts in Ireland.
Our first event launched in May 2016 organised on nothing except passion, drive and a shoestring budget.
We organised pop-ups from Dublin to Galway, dissecting topical themes from the the disparity of female designers working in Ireland, to commending Ireland's courageous entrepreneurs for pursuing their passion projects. But our primary focus is the Above the Fold Creative Conference, held annually in the Mick Lally Theatre, Galway.
We persevered with programming with minimum financial assistance. Curating events that would inform and inspire our audience. But the time has come to reach out for your support.
Our vision is to nurture a nationally renowned conference designed to celebrate and support emerging and established creatives. With your support, Above the Fold can grow into a creative enterprise located on the Western tip of Ireland.
2017 Speakers include:
Jo Anne and Gearóid are based in Westport, Co. Mayo, where inspiration is drawn directly from the surrounding landscape. They describe their design approach as 'materials-led', designing products around functionality and the best qualities of the selected material.
Jette is a food stylist and creative entrepreneur, who recently launched The Collective Europe - Europe's first tech-free conference for innovators, creatives and entrepreneurs.
Jette also runs Created + Found, a beautiful homeware range stocking ceramics, linen, sundries and natural wood utensils.
Alan Bennett is the Managing Editor and Founder of HeadStuff Media, a cultural website, podcast network and events organisation. He studied Fine Art Paint in Limerick School of Art and Design (BA), then received an MA in creative writing from UCD.
Supporters of The Repeal Project range from Gloria Steinem to an array of politicians, who as a result of the projects impact – represented Ireland in Brussels at the European Parliament at a gathering of European female politicians/activists.
Later this year Anna will launch Labyrinth, a collective bridging the gaps between Design, Politics, Activism and Art.
Galway based musician David Boland has been performing and making music under the pseudonym of New Pope since 2014. He has released two critically acclaimed albums Youth (2015) and Love (2016), with a third expected for release in 2017.
New Pope wears the varying shapes of his heart on his sleeve – as a romantic, nostalgic, observer of life and a dreamer. His songs are thought and emotion provoking poetic essays on the world in which he surrounds himself.
Piquant are a group of passionate creators, who believe in the power of 'Story' and always strive to access the authentic human element in their work. Piquant work with graphics, video, photography, illustration, paint and most importantly people.
With two more speakers to be announced.

What's in store for the future of Above the Fold?
Above the Fold is a creative project, designed to inform, inspire and engage the creative community in Ireland. Our roots are firmly fixed in Galway City, with an annual conference that will build a platform for the creative community in the west of Ireland.
We want to continue to cast our net throughout Ireland, with pop-ups forecast for Dublin, Limerick and Belfast. We can only proceed with programming with the help of our donators. So please, give as little or as much as you can so that we can help to make the future of Above the Fold a reality.

We are hugely appreciative of every donation - big or small!
If you can't afford to donate, please share our campaign so you can help make Above the Fold 2017 a reality.

Risks and challenges
Above the Fold has been running for 365 days, with minimum financial support. We hosted events that cost absolutely nothing to organise, and others that have cost us time, effort and an overdrawn bank account.
But we don't want to volunteer anymore. We want our designers to get paid, we want our speakers to get fed, watered and appreciated. And more than anything, we want Above the Fold to thrive so we can hire a team of event managers, designers and staff that will strive to support and celebrate the creative community in Ireland.
We will persevere with this event, but we need your help to make this a reality by donating as little or as much as you can.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
