We’re a couple of friends who love games and good company and want to provide a place for people to find both in Bournemouth.
Mixing great games with barista grade coffee and locally sourced food, we want you to feel comfortable kicking back with friends. We'll have over 500 games you can borrow and play in the store and a great selection for you to buy.
We have the funds we need to open in Spring 2017, but need your help here on Kickstarter to take it to the next level.
About Coffee & Dice
We plan to be open from 10am to 11pm every day (except Christmas, we’re opening the bubbly and putting our feet up that day!) with over 500 games on the wall for you to choose from. For £4 you can come and play as many games as you like, for as long as you like. We'll also have staff on hand to recommend games and talk you through the rules to anything new (because who likes reading rule books?!).
Our menu will include barista grade coffee (of course!), milkshakes, soft drinks, sandwiches, cakes, snacks and mezze boards. We're also in discussions with the council about getting an alcohol license to add a selection of craft beers, ciders and wine to the menu. We're sourcing our ingredients from roasters, dairies and independent bakeries right here in Dorset.
Coffee & Dice is a community, not just a shop selling delicious drinks and snacks and top quality games. We’re providing a place for people to play games with new friends and old, and take part in fun events. We love how board games bring people together and will be running weekly Tuesday night events for you to come by yourself, or with a group of friends. There’ll also be monthly themed events, evenings hosted by game designers and competitions throughout the year.
How you can make it happen
You can support Coffee & Dice by pledging your support with one (or more!) of our awesome perks, or by sharing the campaign with family and friends. Take a look below at what’s on offer:
The Supporter For £5 or more our thanks will be immortalised on the wall of Coffee & Dice. Your name will be written in a collage to show that you were part of Coffee & Dice from the very beginning. All Kickstarter supporters pledging over £5 will be included in the collage.
(Nicknames are fine for the wall – but remember to keep it clean, Coffee & Dice will be a venue for all ages!)
The Coffee & Dice It does what it says on the tin. For £20 you get a set of Coffee & Dice branded dice and an enamel Coffee & Dice mug during your first visit.
Be on Brand If you’ve met us at an event you’ll have seen the jazzy shirts our team wear. £35 will make you the proud owner of your own Coffee & Dice t-shirt and tote bag. T-shirts are available for men and women in a range of sizes.
The Gamer Got a favorite game you want to make sure we have at Coffee & Dice? For £50 you can sponsor a game and have a sponsorship certificate with your name on it inside the box, so everyone knows who to thank! You’ll also get a copy of our custom made Start Player Deck.
The start player deck will help you decide who goes first when playing a game with over 100 different ways of deciding. As a Kickstarter exclusive we'll also print a promo card with your name declared as the start player. Because sometimes going first matters!
The Invite We’re having a pre-opening party and inviting a host of board game bloggers, reviewers, designers, and for £75 you too! Try out the Coffee & Dice experience before everyone else. The event is planned for an evening in March 2017 (subject to building work being completed on time).
The Colour Deed Are you tired of other players taking YOUR colour in a game? Stake your claim on your colour of choice and never be gazumped again! A colour deed certificate with your name on the wall at Coffee & Dice means your tokens are safe in your control, without dispute, whenever you visit. We'll also provide a copy for you to take home… just so it’s clear exactly whose colour it is!
Private Party Our venue has a section available to book for private events, you and up to twenty friends can be the first to try it out! For £750 we’ll provide your own staff member to teach games, a hot drink for everyone, and a buffet with a selection from the Coffee & Dice menu.
Dates can be booked Sunday to Thursday for an evening party, or any day for events ending before 5pm.
Everything! Can't choose between them? Have all of the above for £1,000! And high fives will be in order.
Membership Add one year's membership to any of the above perks (all kickstarter memberships will start from our opening date).
Note: We are expecting the majority of items to be collected from Coffee & Dice when you first visit, but postage can be arranged. Please get in touch and let us know your location so we can let you know the cost for postage and estimated delivery dates.
Venue Location and Opening Date
After a long search, we’ve found the perfect venue at Calendula Place, 752-778 Christchurch Road, Boscombe. It has street parking, public transport links, pay and display car parks nearby, ample seating for sixty with a spacious layout and will be accessible for those with mobility issues.
The venue is currently under construction and is due to be completed in February 2017. If the building work is completed on time (fingers crossed) we plan to open in March 2017.
We'll have a pre-opening event with a guest list of board game designers, reviewers and Kickstarter supporters. You can secure your invite with one of the campaign perks and get a sneak peek before anyone else!
We’ve secured funding to make Coffee & Dice happen through our own money and a business loan, so Coffee & Dice will be opening in 2017 no matter what. We’re here on Kickstarter looking to raise £10k as this extra money will help us make Coffee & Dice the best it can be from day one.
The money will go towards custom tables designed with board games in mind, more games to fill the library with the games you want to play and upgrades to enhance your gaming experience. We have a whole host of ideas for the venue to help create an amazing space for our community to meet, chat, game, and relax.
Your support on Kickstarter can make it happen.
Risks and challenges
Opening a coffee shop can be a high-risk venture, so we have been cautiously planning Coffee & Dice since August 2014. We’ve had our business plan reviewed by coffee shop start-up consultants, taken advice from existing board game café owners and run a series of events to test our ideas in Bournemouth and the south of England.
We believe our careful planning, the consistent growth in the board game industry, positive feedback from events and the existing community of board gamers in Bournemouth will give Coffee & Dice the best chance for success.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
