Silkworm. Team Leader.
Silkworm. Team Leader.

NYC, 1985 The Jawbreakers didn't have fancy weapons or high-tech hideouts, just soot-covered tights and busted knuckles from dealing street justice in the alleys and on the rooftops of New York City.

But when a younger, ultra-powered generation of superheroes known as The Cosmics debuts, The Jawbreakers find themselves utterly outclassed.

Vastly powerful, The Cosmics never have to engage in actual combat. They can teleport criminals straight into prison. Erase the traumatic memories that made criminals choose a life of crime. Stop crimes before they happen. The Cosmics don’t live in the old black-and-white binary world that The Jawbreakers do.

HellPriest. Chaplain/Sniper.

The Cosmics quickly transform New York City into a crime-free paradise. So The Jawbreakers quit the superhero game and leave NYC.

DevilDog. Killing Machine.
DevilDog. Killing Machine.

Like an aging rock band, The Jawbreakers’ schtick still plays in less-developed parts of the world. They don’t fight against bank robbers and petty street thugs anymore- but rather against despotic armies, terrorist groups, slavers and traffickers in human misery.

10 years pass. An entity known as GØD-K1NG starts to kill off The Cosmics and absorb their power. Autumn Jade, the last member of The Cosmics tracks down The Jawbreakers in Nigeria and gives them an offer they should refuse. A suicide mission for no pay isn't exactly tempting, but the idea of taking back their home turf is. And the young woman asking them to risk their lives is none other than the long-thought-dead daughter of Silkworm, the leader of The Jawbreakers.

JAWBREAKERS is a classic superhero action story told in the tongue-in-cheek tone of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and THE EXPENDABLES.

RICHARD C. MEYER (writer/artist)- An infantry combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, Richard has mainly told military stories up until now. His first book, NO ENEMY, BUT PEACE, told the true story of Sergeant Marco Martinez earning the Navy Cross in Iraq. His next major project, CHOSIN: HOLD THE LINE, told the story of the Marines trapped at the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. That graphic novel was adapted into an animated short titled CHOSIN: BAPTIZED BY FIRE. Both of these graphic novels were funded by Kickstarter campaigns.

Richard wrote and drew FALLEN HEROES, a graphic novel financed and distributed by the Department of Defense to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the end of the Korean War. In addition to these true war stories, he wrote YONCHI, which was published by Image Comics in their POPGUN anthology. He also wrote and drew a story in FUBAR: EMPIRE OF THE RISING DEAD which landed a spot on the New York Times Bestseller List for graphic novels.

Risks and challenges

Having fulfilled all backer rewards on the last two successful Kickstarter campaigns I have worked on ("'No Enemy, But Peace' graphic novel" and "CHOSIN: An Animated War Film") the risks are low. I'd say that digital file corruption is the biggest risk but since my day job is IT, that risk is mitigated by my knowledge of proper back-up procedures.
