About this project
Nijicon is an East Coast convention dedicated to highlighting the increasing presence of LGBTQ characters in comics, novels, television, and movies. It is a fun weekend event that is designed to bring together fans of these works and the LGBTQ community.
Nijicon is a combination of the Japanese word "Niji" (which means rainbow) and the word "convention". Our event originated as a Japanese anime and manga convention and has since evolved to include all entertainment media with a queer slant.
With a schedule full of panels, games, presentations, discussions, and viewings there's so much to see and do. Our Vendor Room contains a wide variety of media and recognizable industry personnel. We even work with publishers to make sure that every attendee receives a free comic or novel in their convention bag.
One of our core principles is that everyone(regardless of sexual/gender identity) is welcome to our event. Nijicon is a safe space for all Yaoi/Yuri, M/M, F/F, etc. fans to come together with Queer Geeks and enjoy great comics! We openly encourage this interaction in an effort to unite geeks instead of divide them.
Most importantly, Nijicon is a fan run convention. There is no large corporate sponsor or club backing. This convention is run by dedicated fans in our free time and is truly a labor of love. We plan to use the money raised from this Kickstarter to continue running this event this upcoming October. Funds are needed for the venue, paying our vendors, and continuing to host the planned events and experiences for attendees that we are known for.
We, the planners of Nijicon, have been on both sides of a convention as attendees as well as panelists, guests, and vendors. With this unique perspective, we plan our event to be fun for everyone that attends. Our staff and volunteers go above and beyond to make sure that everyone's needs are met to the best of our ability.
Over the two years we have successfully held Nijicon, we have watched it grow into an event truly for the generations of geeks that feel under represented or misrepresented in mainstream media. It is an unique place that brings fans/allies and the LGBTQ community together in an environment that welcomes our differences and connects us. This convention is more than just a place to talk about the media we love, it's an event where we continue to meet such amazing people and have made life-long friends. And with your help, we hope to continue Nijicon for another fantastic year.
Our 2016 event is planned to take place October 22-23,2016 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks,PA.

Risks and challenges
Except for an "Act Of (a) God" the con will go on!
We've been planning this convention for the past two years and are prepared to do whatever is necessary to ensure that this event continues!
However, conventions are a labor of love. We plan and organize Nijicon because we truly enjoy what we do, however please understand that "real life" can sometimes interfere with our plans. If anything comes up, we will make every effort to effectively convey that to all of you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
