Her Blood and Bone is a collection of my ink drawings from Inktober 2017. While I didn’t intend on a theme or a book collecting them, I hit a nice pace and even went back and remade the illustrations for days I hadn’t stuck on my theme. The theme being … women with animal heads. Then I added a dark little story for each illustration, just one paragraph each.
The book itself is half letter (8.5 inches tall x 5.5 inches wide) and 68 pages. There are 31 images from Inktober and then of course I had to do up my own self-portrait in this style for the end.
Why fund this book?
If you like some dark humor, you will likely enjoy this book. Each illustration includes a brief description. “Flash fiction” you might call it. Some of these are lighter in tone than others. Most might leave you feeling a little queasy if you think about it too hard. Even with that, many of them will make you laugh.
When do I get my reward?
With the end of the Kickstarter, I will send the complete book file to the printer, no later than December. You can expect updates through each step of the process, with all orders heading out no later than March 2018.
What do these illustrations look like? What are the stories like?
Well, I supposed I will share some. It's not like I didn't post photos of them all on my Instagram. But I haven't shared the little stories yet.
"Paola was out for a walk on a country lane when she found a lone glove. She has always found lone items of a pair to be particularly sad. After loosing her own partner, she empathized with them too much. She would often take the lone soul home and make it a new partner—knitting, sewing, or crocheting a near match because a new partner could never hold up to the perfection of the original."
"Mattie is a young donkey lady who was born with a club foot. After extensive surgeries as a toddler, she was all straightened out. As a tween, she had to wear a back brace to cure her scoliosis. And then as a teen, she had to also get braces to straighten her teeth after getting an extra one removed. Despite her body trying to twist itself into a corkscrew, she is good-natured and always trying to cheer up those around her."
Risks and challenges
This book is ready to go to the printer. I just need to get the money to pay them to print it. If the Kickstarter is not successful, I will put it up on Amazon CreateSpace and you can get it anyways.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
