In 2014, I ran the first Awesome 'Possum Kickstarter campaign. I had just finished a natural science illustration certificate program with a bunch of other artists. We were all still so excited about the amazing things we had learned, I thought it would be fun to put together a comic anthology. So I got 7 other artists and put together the what would be the first volume of Awesome 'Possum.
Later that year, I started at The Center for Cartoon Studies to get my MFA in cartooning. Over the summer, I decided to put together a second Awesome 'Possum. I decided to broaden it a bit and invited both the natural science illustrators from my first class and the new cartoonists I had meet at CCS. So that time, in 2015, with another successful Kickstarter, we had twenty-two artists.
But this year, 2016, I have gone full hog and opened the gates to everyone. I had open submissions early this year and got a bunch of great submissions. So now, to my shock and amazement, we have a book with 45 creators! This is the third year, and each time I have more than double the book, both by number of creators and number of pages. This year is about as big as I can stand. With that many spectacular creators, we have 350 pages of content! This year I was far more involved in editing each story to ensure really clear and top-notch comics. I am proud of this book and what these creators have accomplished.
But because this year is so many more people and pages, the goal is also significantly higher. We have a huge book, which has limited the printing options (some printers limit the books to 240 pages, over 100 short). I am also paying the creators $10 per page. They worked hard, and I want to support them as best I can.

The image is based on a crop circle called "The Spider." It comes with the poem of the same title in an easily framable format at 10" by 14" on card stock or handmade paper.
Angela Boyle will put together a curiosity cabinet with only real items, like bones and bugs.
Risks and challenges
The comics are almost complete at the time of this project going live, and print files should be ready by the time the project ends. We just need your help in funding the printing itself.
