WHO OR WHAT OR HOW IS THIS CREATURE KNOWN SIMPLY AS CHICKEN?
Chicken came to me as a plush stuffed animal by my step-father, who worked at the Calvert Department of Waste Disposal in 2009. He simply walked in and was curious to know if I wanted this strange totem he fished from being thrown away. I said, "sure" casually and used him as a oddity of a home decoration.
Fast forward about a year. I decided to bring Chicken to one of my comic book shows in Richmond, VA. I dressed him up in some cosplay and threw up a sign, listing him as: THE OFFICIAL SPOKESCHICKEN OF 21ST CENTURY SANDSHARK STUDIOS.
I wont lie and say people immediately warmed up to him. Most at first found him "a cute novelty" at best, and "strangely disconcerting" at odd moments. But over time, he became a staple part of both my booth and 21st Century Sandshark Studios lore. He has developed a small but loyal cult following, that has regaled in his various social media and meme related exploits of debauchery, alcoholic over-indulgence and philosophical introspection.
Over all these years, many people have asked the same question: WHEN IS CHICKEN GETTING HIS OWN COMIC? The answer, up until recently, was: SOMETIME AFTER (INSERT COMIC BOOK HERE.) Well that previous book is done and my plate is now officially clear to start this long discussed project! Which I have thusly sought to entitle:
SO WHAT IS CHICKEN: USDA REJECTED ALL ABOUT?
In short: Chicken USDA Rejected can be "elevator pitched" as a FEAR AND LOATHING AT COMICON. In longer terms. It's the tale of a Saturday Night after a Comicon in Baltimore, where Chicken decides to leave the convention center, to have a night on the town with some friends, getting into various quasi felonious acts and quite possibly saving the world in the process...Or not?
This book will be different from my past books in a couple of ways. 1st off, where my previous books have ranged from my collaboration with Nick Davis on the all ages: TEDDY BEAR TALES, to my own creator-owned properties; Which range from PG to PG-13. This book is a HARD-R rating as far as content is concerned. So if nudity, harsh language and adult situations are not your strong suit. Then this book IS NOT FOR YOU. But for those looking for more ODD AND GROWN UP HUMOR. This comic is RIGHT UP YOUR ALLEY!
The other big difference is that we will have a companion COLORING AND ACTIVITY BOOK called respectively:
The book will have 2 dozen images and various puzzles and activities and follow along both the themes of the book and Chicken's...Brand and idiom. So how do we plan to go about all this?
Our initial target goal is to raise about $2000 to help support the cost of both the comic and coloring books along with various rewards and their shipping costs.
This will also be the first full comic book project, that I will be doing in full (Well, ALMOST FULL COLOR. There will be a few pages in black and white for reasons I can not reveal here.)
I at this point am planning to set the comic book at 72-80 pages of story material and will be a stand alone ONE-SHOT. This means that you it's a "one and done" reading experience. Which for you folks with low attention span looking for a good but quick read. This will be something you may be interested in.
The coloring book will be around 48 pages and will be a mix of coloring pages and various puzzle related activities. It's a genuine spoof on the kids coloring and activity book. But will not be safe for children!
On top of that we have a pretty nifty list of rewards lined up in addition to all this which will be used to fund with the proceeds of this project.
So what's in it for you? Besides bringing a cool, funny, and well crafted indie comic project to life and doing your part to promote the best Western Culture has to offer???
