This is you.. A mere minion in Lady Goldfish's crew, in a never ending mission to repair the boat.. Yet again.. and of course, Her Majesty's orders?
Lady Goldfish has a passion for shinies. On occasion, ok, all the time, her passion tends to leave her focusing more on her shinies than on steering her boat. Once again, she has run the ship aground on a deserted island and has declared that you shall find all of her lost treasures and collect enough wood to repair the boat.
Lady Goldfish is designed in Unity3D and is a top down 2D arcade game. Players take on the role of the minion sent out to collect everything they can in an effort to make the ship seaworthy again. The game is designed to be played with a variety of controllers including keyboard and mouse. Touch controls already include two different methods of control along with a left handed mode for each one.
Currently there are 75+ levels built into the game with plans for another 50 to 75. This is designed to be a game a player can pick up and play for a level or two and then exit to pick it up again. The game saves the current state in between sessions. Players do have a health bar as well as lives. Once the lives are exhausted their high score is submitted to an online leaderboard.
Most of the game coding is complete. Additional work is being done currently adding powerups and more enemies to the game. I am also adding additional game modes to the game which are to be a timed mode with the highest score, and a single life arcade mode that plays until you lose a life.
Lady Goldfish currently has a variety of enemies and obstacles built into the game. Some of these include roaming whirlpools, whales who's water sprays can capsize your boat, rival pirate ships and more.
Whales: Whales roam the open seas, but of course they must breathe. Don't get caught in their water spout or you'll find your boat filling with water!
Whirlpools: Storms rage across the water and sometimes dangerous whirlpools form. These will suck down anything that gets in their way whether its floating planks, or even you.
Islands: What's an ocean without islands? Islands are the ever present danger to anyone in a boat. There's nothing worse than running aground in shallow waters.
Ice Flows: There are times when the waters cool and sheets of ice form on the surface. Ice plus boats equals danger! Watch out and don't get trapped between ice flows!
Towers: Not all islands are uninhabited. Some are home to peoples who want nothing to do with the outside world. These people may build towers and shoot flaming arrows at anyone who gets to close!
Sharks: The most dangerous predators in the ocean, especially to a lone minion in a rowboat. The fins on their backs are sharp and can even slice a boat in half!
The Lost Treasures of Lady Goldfish is being designed for a variety of platforms. The first release will be for android phones and tablets as well as for the Windows 8 Store. Once these platforms are released, we will be working on releases for apple phones and tablets. On windows we will be releasing a version for the Surface RT tablet as well.
We have plans to release in the Google Play Store and are looking at other stores including the Amazon store for release on the Kindle series of tablets.
Support for other devices including Ouya and Amazon Fire TV will be evaluated after the release of the planned platforms.
We are using Kickstarter to help raise additional funds to help with completing the game. The coding and game is about 90% done. The additional funds will be used to purchase assets on the Unity store to assist with common tasks such as advertising, in app purchases, etc. This funding will also allow us to pay for additional artwork, audio and marketing for the software.
Here is a breakdown of how the funds would be used.
- 15% Platform and market, licensing and Kickstarter fees
- 15% Audio
- 20% Marketing
- 20% Rewards (Creation and Shipping)
- 30% Assets and coding
The team. This consists of me. I am a one man indie developer based out of Boise, ID. I have always loved writing video games ever since the days of the Vic 20. I work full time for a major telecommunications company, but my game development is my passion! I'm especially fond of 2D games that focus on the fun and gameplay, and less on using the latest bleeding edge super photo realistic first person graphics.
I have currently published several games on Xbox Live Indie Games, as well as in the Windows 8 store and on Windows Phone 7. Some of my previous work on the Xbox 360 includes the games Cannon #12, Kollectiv and Suuey!
I apologize for the lack of an awesome video. I know my skills, and trying to do a video with no funding would only detract from it. I do everything on my own, and well my video creating and editing skills are a little lacking. If you feel differently and that a project must include a video, I apologize and maybe next time. But at the very least, here is a picture of the team, myself and the one and only Lady Goldfish!
I do not have any particular stretch goals, however any additional funding above the minimum will be put towards the following goals.
- $100 - iOS Developer License
- $150 - Server costs to maintain websites and leader boards
- $100 - Ouya device
- $100 - Fire TV device & market
- $1500 - Purchase the pro version of Unity3D and eliminate the splash screen

Risks and challenges
Of course, there are risks associated with backing any project such as this. I do have a record and several published games on a variety of platforms. As with any project, there may always be unexpected complications and delays, but that is the only risk I see. The game will be finished and will be published.
