About The Exchange Pub & Kitchen.
The Exchange Pub & Kitchen will be relocating this fall to historic downtown New Albany. We have been in business for close to 2 years now and have reached a point where we need a space to grow along with our business. We have purchased the historic Shrader's Stables at 118 W. Main St. in historic Downtown New Albany, just 3 miles away from our current location. Renovations began in early July and we are scheduled for completion this November. Once construction is complete we will be making the transition to our new space. We are a gastropub offering lunch, dinner, and late night dining options. For us a gastropub is quite simple you see, high quality chef driven plates in a casual and comfortable setting. Our menu's focus is American Seasonal, which we rotate 4 times over the course of the year. We source local products and ingredients and strive to focus on fresh, local, seasonal flavors. Our beverage program is made up of hand crafted cocktails, local craft breweries, and boutique wines.
Why the move?
We have been in our existing location for close to two years and have continued to grow. We are currently located in an old Strip Mall space off the beaten path. We have very limited visibility and access to our current location. Our lease is expiring this November and we felt the timing was right to make the move. We have purchased a "new" old building and will no longer be leasing. We feel this is a much wiser investment and will allow us greater opportunities in the future. In our new location will be gaining 25% more seating, a larger kitchen space, updated heating and air conditioning (which has been a very large problem for our existing space, as our current kitchen can get as hot as 110 degrees during the summer months.) We will be located on a main road in an up and coming area of a newly revitalized downtown area. We are giving this building which has sat vacant for over 20 years a second chance to shine and be reintroduced back into the community.
About the space.
We are restoring the 137 year old building and bringing it back to life. Originally a stable and liver, it has also housed a funeral parlor, barber shop, poultry company, and a tire warehouse. Having sat vacant for over the last 20 years, it had become a very large eyesore in our downtown community. We are keeping with the original character of the building, original exposed brick, woodwork, windows, and exposed steel bridge trusses that make up the interior of the building. We will be using salvaged materials throughout. We are completing updating all the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC system, thus meshing the old with the new of todays high efficiency standards, which as you know can get quite expensive. It would have been easy to start from scratch, but we felt the character and history of this space couldn't be duplicated.
Our goal is to raise $15,000 to finish up with some of the final finish details. With restoring such an old building we have run into some additional expenses from the original budget. Our project's funding goal is to reach or go above $15,000 . If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing.
With your support this is what we will achieve.
Hand painted mural of our logo by local artist Brad Stivers on the side of our building.
Reclaimed table tops made from salvaged materials that we saved during the demo phase.
Purchase of a local 100 year old front and back bar that will serve as the centerpiece for the upstairs private dining space.
New storefront and carriage stye garage doors to complete the facade.
Thanks so much for taking the time to look at our project and we hope that you are as excited about it as we are.
No, Kickstarter is an all or nothing campaign. If we do not reach our goal of at least $15,000 no one will be charged and no rewards will be issued. We must meet our goal in order for those 2 things to happen and make everyone happy
