Hi! Thanks for checking out our project, "The Perks of Writing a Musical." With your help, we would like to make our vision a realilty and launch one of the most ambitious web shows on the Internet. "The Perks of Writing a Musical" is a new scripted musical web show. Glee meets Wii.
I'm very excited to be working on a web show. Web shows have been called the last great entertainment frontier of our lifetime - a Wild West of Possibilities! You can help us make "The Perks of Writing a Musical" a possibility.
"The Perks of Writing a Musical" is an up-beat, feel-good musical to cheer us up during down-turned times. We want your support to create a show filled with charming characters, wonderful stories, great acting, first-rate production values - including an amazing musical video. It's the kind of show they'll be talking about at the virtual water cooler for years to come.
"The Perks of Writing a Musical" is about the youthful world of teen-aged gamers, what makes them play, love, and create. It's about the challenges of true intimacy in a tech-driven world and and the transformative nature of art.
We've drawn our creative team from Hollywood's independent film world and the Broadway community. Creator Tom Diggs' work was recently nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Director Bill Oliver is AFI alum and has worked for Paramount and SONY. Cinematographer David Kagen comes to us from True Blood, Entourage and The Green Hornet. Composer Jason Michael Snow is currently in the Book of Mormom on Broadway. Lyricist Misha Faucher is a favorite at the prestigious BMI Musical Theatre Workshop where she and Jason often collaborate. And we've cast an amazing, charismatic group of actor-singers - including Alex Wyse, Allison Strong, and Paul Cereghino - check them out in our video. In the end, we're just a crew of indie creative types who like to create cool stuff. We believe this is going to be a great musical web show!
So here's where you come in. We're raising money to produce the kind of pilot episode the world can't help but fall in love with. We were originally going to shoot it all guerilla style with iphones and Flip cameras, but the musical production number renders that impossible. Everyone above the line (directors, actors, writers) is donating their time and talent. However, "below the line" production costs (including pre- and post-) aren't donated as easily. Still, we have been able to slash a $50,000 budget down to a workable $12,000 to create the best production possible.
OUR PROMISE: Principal Casting completed: Feb. 15, 2011 Song recorded: Feb. 20, 2011 Shooting wrapped: March 27, 2011 Launched by May 15, 2011. We're registered to launch on blip.tv, youtube, as well as www.theperksofwritingamusical.com
Everyone who donates at least $10 gets a shooting script of the pilot episode signed by the cast and creative team. $25 dollars gets you a CD of the pilot episode song, "She Doesn't Know My Name," also signed. Every cent donated will go into the budget of the pilot. With your support, you will not just receive premiums signed by tomorrow's rising stars, but you'll also be inspiring a community of artists and you'll be a vital part of the next generation of musicals.
Thank you for your support!
