Hey Ko (that is what all have called you before me),

I stumbled into this link somehow (I think you followed me on a social platform) and now that I'm here I would love to give you feedback!

Everything written below makes a lot of sense to me. My additions to those points are the following:

      • You mention ukiyo-e twice without explaining it. Perhaps intended but it does make me wonder what that is...
      • Your components image is not actually below / near enough to the components text. There is a "share on FB" image between those two elements and I would put them closer together.
      • Also, about the "share on FB", I can totally see why you place this quite high up, but it is a bit strange for me at least that I should share before I am convinced. If I've only read the first synopsis and not even seen the components I will pretty much never share the game (yet). So perhaps you can play with moving this down lower?
      • Below that the components image and character cards image (animated!) are great. The link from the character cards image is a bit strange. It goes to your game page, which can be useful to help me (or whoever is viewing your campaign) to decide to make a pledge, but I'm not sure it's good to take us viewers away from your campaign as we maybe don't come back? Also, I would expect such a link to go to a more extensive list of characters, not the main homepage.
      • Very cool to see how portable the game is. Funny you showed it next to an iPhone! :)

Those are my comments so far. Oh, and also, I am a native english speaker and would be extremely happy to offer myself for editing your English text once you are ready to go live. Please just contact me on Kickstarter or by email at dylan@seizethebean.com! :)

      Cheers,
      -dilkROM

      Thanks for your comment John!

Hey just send you FBI request. Happy to send you a prototype copy for your game review!

    4. John Haremza on October 27, 2016

Hey Ko, it looks like you guys are moving things along pretty well. I would echo some of the other comments that were made. Before launch have a native English speaker read through it and give it a tweak. Also, make your one dollar pledge just a thank you pledge. That's pretty standard. Your print and play should be at least 5 dollars, IMO.

Talk to other designers and check out successfully funded kickstarters. I could probably put you into contact with a few different designers if you like. It looks like you have quite a few reviews and videos already but I'd be happy to review your game if you're looking for any more. Here's a link to my website www.legendsoftabletop.com

Hebers: thanks for your valuable feedback. will take that in account.

    6. Hebers Castro on August 10, 2016

The first two comments were great! Kudos to them. What I would recommend is looking at other (successful) kickstarter projects, and sort of mimic how they present the information. I think this project would work because you're hitting a lot of genres (History, Strategy, and of course Japanese lore/art/culture). But presentation and stretch goals, I feel, is going to get this project off the ground. Also, I would look into expansions (seems early, I know) but people love building upon a great game. If you start thinking about it now, you can leave the game slightly open to different possibilities/scenarios. Hope this helps!

Thanks guys! These comments really help me a lot.

Hi Ko. I would suggest putting the PNP (print and play) version of the game at a higher level - at least $5. You needed to pay your artists for the work so charging a little for the PNP version is okay. I would then add the PNP version to the higher pledge as well. So your "1 Regular Zipang Portable" would also receive a copy of the PDF files for print and play.

Anthony Ronda's suggestions are also very good. You should include them.

Are you sure you want to place "a 100% guarantee on the game"? Shipping costs alone will really hurt you as most people will want you to cover the shipping costs of the returned game.

Also, you mention stretch goal levels but don't list how much is needed to unlock them. You'll want to put that information in.

If you are using a Japanese printing company, remember that you'll have to adjust for the exchange rate. Right now, the rate is good for Yen but that might change once the project ends. You might want to raise the price slightly to cover that possibility.

Make sure you mention shipping costs as well as how to add additional decks. Most projects allow the pledges to "over pledge" to add to their order.

So far, the game and the project looks good. Make sure you get an Native English speaker to edit your grammar before going live.

    9. Anthony Ronda on August 1, 2016

Hi Ko! I have some grammar suggestions for the first paragraph. You should separate it into three short sentences, but the order of the sentences is up to you. I think the way I wrote it below sounds dynamic.

Easy to learn, fast to play, deceptively strategic. (or put your preferred adverb before "strategic," "yet" sounds too passive in my opinion) Zipang Portable is a gorgeous Ukiyo-e style card game designed (add "and illustrated"?) by Japanese artists. Players will wage great battles and play Japan's most iconic legends ("characters" makes them sound fictional instead of historical) of the Sengoku period (leave out 17th century for the introduction since you cover this in a later paragraph)

About this project

日本語レビュー記事も有ります。

You find yourself in the distant land of Zipang, Japan. This is a place that is crumbling under the stress of military conflict, with feudal lords battling for power and ravaging all of the lands and all of the people around them in the process. In order to save this place, you must change the course of history, rewrite destiny and make a lasting impact. You will face unspeakable challenges, and war will become unavoidable.

Zipang Portable is a fast-paced “pick one, play one” card game, with stunning ukiyo-e style cards beautifully designed by Japanese artists. Players will dive into the greatest battle of the 17th century. Become Sengoku heroes, vying for the Shogun’s power in this compact, easy-to-learn, yet hard-to-master game. Play and find out.

We have come to you, Kickstarter, for help raising $9,000. This start-up capital will cover the costs of printing our game, which includes 30 character cards, 30 Mangoku coins, 2 reference cards, and a rule sheet, in addition to marketing and distribution. We appreciate your contributions. Together we will bring history to life. Thank you.

"The kids and I really enjoyed this one. It’s quick, easy to learn, and has enough strategy to keep us coming back from more. I initially didn’t know what to expect from this one, and was pleasantly surprised with how good it really is.

"Not to mention, the game touts a seriously kick-ass theme and the art to bolster it. Artists Tsutomu Araki and Issey Kunogi have done a real bang-up job at creating gorgeous art that is authentic to the period and adds a beautiful polish to the game."

"This game is extremely addicting. Our game group met up to play a short game of Zipang Portable and then play something else. We ended up playing Zipang Portable over and over all afternoon!"

"Setup is simple, and players are involved in their first Campaign in no time. Although this is a pre-Kickstarter copy of the game, it still looks great! I’m looking forward to backing the campaign once it goes live!"

Risks and challenges

We understand this is our first published game and there are things we will encounter that could set us back. With that said, we want to give you complete confidence in our preparation. We have studied from the likes of Jamey Stegmaier and James Mathe, and sought the council of countless successful Kickstarter creators. We have planned out and decided to mitigate our manufacturing risk by choosing the most reliable game-printing company, WinGo, as our partner. We have already submitted files and started work on digital color proofs and white-box production samples to ensure their quality. When the campaign ends, we will be ready to simply begin production, so we expect a reasonably short turnaround. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send us a message or leave a comment.
