Message In a Bottle

Posted by Jacob Janerka (Creator)

You've found yourself at your closest beach, looking out into the distance.
"Jacob said January, it is now January, a January without Jacobs game."
You make a note you need to stop repeating January, it doesn't make sense. Also the stench is also quite pungent and smells of ass at this particular beach. You realise the romanticism of looking out towards the ocean reflecting on your life isn't always what it's cracked it to be.

In the distance you spot a message in a bottle that just washed upon the shore. It's for you, from Jacob. It says.
"Ah damn it. gotta push release back, but it's almost done. Also send nudes."

So as most of you probably gathered, Paradigm won't be coming out in January! However don't fret, it's almost done,

  • Every art assets is done (NOICE feels good writing that)
  • 98% of SFX is done,
  • The OST is done.
  • 98% of Voice over is done. (what's left is odd pick ups and the in-game hint system. Leaving that till last after beta testing is done so I can make sure its balanced)

  • Heavy polish/bug testing/beta testing. ( Currently what I'm spending most of my time on)
  • Admin stuff (figuring out Steam/setting up boring business stuff. )
  •  Marketing till release ~~~ (Trailers/demos/promotions etc.
  • Final Audio Mixing (Jonas's Jam)
  • Wrapping up the small bit parts of VO and directors commentary

VO and proof reading went over schedule, was the main issue.

My Grammar is quite terrible (as you can probably tell from these updates haha) So it took a lot of back and forth to make sure it still made sense and was funny. There is ~50 000 words in Paradigm.

The whole process of VO also just took a lot longer than I expected. Finding actors, doing auditions, directing etc. Voicing Paradigm, 3 other characters and then editing/cutting up all the ~6500 lines. In conjuction with learning new audio editing software techniques.

I learnt SOOO much from this process, it was a lot of fun, but a crazy amount more work than I thought. (Holla to @headaudiodesign @wrench and @FrydaWolff for helping through audio growing pains)

I'm still going to refrain from giving a solid release just yet, only because I want to give a better ETA once I start doing heavy Beta testing (will be making available to backers who got this reward ASAP) So far I've smashed a lot of bugs but could be some unexpected stuff from others.

I've finished all art, however I wanna keep most of it on the down low as a lot of it is spoilers and wanna give you guys some surprises on actual release, however, here is some stuff anyway.

Potential Cover for a future physical PDF Manual. I originally was going to have this on release, however I decided that time was better spent finishing the game first, and will have it as a free bonus thing after.

New Year Sketch

 Paradigm now has breathing animations!

May have seen me post this on Twitter and FB however it is officially in-game, but I won't ruin the surprise :)

Added Jonas to the director commentary.

That's about it for the update. Next update I should outline the full VO cast among other things. As always if you peeps feel I haven't answered something or want more info, hit me up at and I'll always be happy to reply :D

I'm busting my ass as hard as I can to get this done everyday all day, I can't wait to show you guys the final product! It's super surreal to even see it in its almost finished form.

Much love

Jacob, awesome updates. Love seeing your artwork. I am curious - what is your workflow in creating all the lovely artwork? What tools do you use? Would love to read about that.

Me and Anna (my wife) are patiently waiting. Take however much time is needed... but try not to need too much more time.... we're really starting to get impatient here! ;-D

Take the time you need to do it right! If the game is as amusing as these updates, I'll definitely be satisfied.

No worries, mate. Take your time, thanks that you keep us updated. Not like other KS-projects, who just don't communicate with their founders.

I've waited too long! I want my money back! J/K
Seriously, though, I'm fine with waiting a bit longer.

Take your time, dude. You've worked so hard and I'm sure most of us can wait longer 'til it's bug free. Just don't bust a nut.

I don't know if it's intentional that it's different, but normally a human's head doesn't move when they breath. :P
