A new world is forming in total chaos. Hostilities between clans are now open and battles seem inevitable. As the leader of your clan, your mission is to conquer territories and expand a powerful Mainland. This is the only way to secure the future of your people.
As players place cards on the board, different territories are created. Your Mainland is your largest territory. Each player has a Mainland, and, probably, some minor territories.
No. The card you play must overlap the cards that have been previously played on the board AND it must overlap the empty space.
Yes. For example, a field can be placed only over a field, a wheat resource or the empty space. You must refer to the "Items table" included in every box to see the overlay rules.
Of course! You can strategically decide to connect your card to your own territory or to the opponent's, or both if the position of the cards on the board allows it.
Some of your lands produce wheat, wood and gold. Protect your resources from the invader if you want to place advanced items.
Your gold resource will be surrounded by your lands and well protected.
Your gold resource has no protection and will be destroyed easily.
You can build a village as soon as you have 1 wheat, 1 wood and 1 gold (well, if you have a village card in hand!).Villages lead to towers, towers lead to warriors, warriors lead to riders and riders lead to the castle. Advanced items become stronger and cannot be easily beaten.
The castle is the strongest item of the game. It can overlay any other items. Furthermore, the castle card doesn’t have to overlap the empty space of the board and can be placed entirely the cards in play. Use it to link a remote territory to your Mainland or to break the Mainland of a threatening opponent!
At some point, the board is full and no more cards can be placed. The game is over and the points are counted to determine the winner. To accumulate as many points as possible, you must maximize your Mainland and try to include value cards in it. The player with the highest score wins the game! Refer to the "Items table" to see the value of the items.
Exactly. The goal of the game is also to break opponent’s Mainland and to prevent its development. You can destroy resources, attack a village or fight a warrior! Refer to the "Items table" to see the overlay rules.
Of course! And there is more… you can play 4-player games! That makes epic battles for the most powerful Mainland.
The strategic part of the game is not only about how you place your cards on the board. At anytime, you have 5 cards in hand. When the turn is yours, you have the option to discard a card and to take the first one from your deck. The card that is thrown is set aside and will no longer be used in the game. Your deck has 64 cards and some items are rare! If you want to get a castle, you could have to sacrifice some other cards.
Don’t wait any longer! Choose your allegiance, reach your camp and start to conquer territories!
My name is Martin, I’m from Quebec City, Canada. I started working on Mainland early in 2017. Since board games design is not my full-time job, I spent many months developing and testing my prototypes. Final rules have been set at the end of the summer. I’m now proud to share my game to the world. I hope people will enjoy playing it as I enjoy making it. I have other ideas of board games; positive feedbacks of Mainland could motivate me to create more. Stay tuned for updates!
The funds received will be used to complete my game, improve the art design and print copies that I could send to reviewers and publishers. If the Kickstarter campaign is successful, I will be able to invest more time and money into my project and eventually start mass production of the game. I also consider this campaign as a good opportunity to gain visibility and credibility in the world of board gaming. If you think Mainland is a good idea, please help me to make it real and support my Kickstarter campaign. Thank you very much!
Many thanks my 2 sons who helped me so much with many aspects of the game. Thierry and Yoann : your comments and ideas have made this game better. Special thanks to Guillaume, Marie-Hélène, Éloïse, Clara, Sylvain, Frédérick, Patrick. Thanks to everyone who have played and tested the game. For all kickstarter users who have visited this page and for backers who believe in Mainland: your support is deeply appreciated.
Risks and challenges
This is my first crowdfunding project and I still have a lot to learn. Since board games design is not my full-time job, I have kept this project very simple to minimize delays and risks. I will do my best to make sure the game is completed successfully and on time. I will keep contact with backers on how things progress.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
