About

Stixx is the first real time note taking app that uses voice recognition from the teacher to automatically transcribe speech into key words for the student in class.

Meet the founders, Charlotte & Bogdan

We started out from a loft conversion in London where we have been conducting thorough research into where the education system is failing dyslexic students. Although we would LOVE to create a magic bullet to help dyslexic children in schools, we would rather provide a more holistic approach as dyslexia can affect people in lots of different ways and each child learns differently.

For more information, please visit www.stixx.me

Students with dyslexia in schools can find learning really challenging. The lack of understanding of dyslexia in schools means that students are being forced to learn in a standardised way, instead of learning in a way that is best for them.

During our research we found that there was an underlining problem with note-taking being an obstruction in the classroom. For someone with dyslexia, their learning processing speed and thinking is different, which may effect the way they can take a note. Some students also struggle to write or spell a word when taking notes, which can cause a lack of concentration rather than actually engaging in class.

When someone with dyslexia hears a piece of information, they need to internalise this and understand it before they can write it down and then when they are doing this, they could be missing the next piece of vital information.

Stixx is designed to make note taking effortless. Rather than focussing on spelling a word or deciding which words are key to note down, the student is now completely engaged. This means that the student can now actually focus on the lesson and participate in discussions in the class, knowing confidently that Stixx has got their note taking under control.

At the end of each lesson, the student can export a full list of key words that were spoken and a full speech transcript of the voice recording.

This means that the student will never miss a thing and more importantly are given the right resources to fulfil their potential in education.

  •  Smart voice recognition software picks up key words from voices in class.
  • Key words are transcribed onto the students device in a timeline.
  • Student selects which key words they want to add to their notebook.
  • Personalise sticky notes by choosing any colour or font suited best for the individual.
  • Add your own text to each sticky note.
  • Easy drag and drop system to move sticky notes around the screen.
  • All key words and voice recordings exported at end of each lesson
  • Full voice recordings given at the end of the lesson to listen back to.

The big question is 'Why are you only raising £5,000 for such a powerful app?!"

Most of the money we raise we want to use on testing in as many schools as possible to prove to you that this app is changing people's lives who suffer with dyslexia.

To get the app into their hands we need to build the product, which we are confident we can do quite quickly.

If we exceed our goal we will put these funds into:

  • Building the functionality of the website so users can get fast support and easy accessibility to the app.
  • App development - we want to constantly improve the voice recognition software to make it greater than ever!
  • Get Stixx Me into every school possible so that no child will ever feel left behind.
  • Never ending user testing and improvements!

So what is my to-do list today....

Risks and challenges

Edtech is really lacking in schools and the main problem is getting teachers to buy into edtech software in general. Some teachers prefer the traditional pen and paper methods for studying and are less inclined to buy into technology.
