The World's Most Super Amazing 100% Awesome Cat Calendar is an annual project between Kate Funk, AC, and Brennan Groh that is going into its 6th year. It all starts with Kate and Brennan deciding on a theme for the year. Past themes have been Famous Monsters, Movies, and Musical Genres. 2014's theme will be Magical Creatures! Kate then gets to work creating all of AC's costumes and dioramas by hand. Once completed she photographs AC (who is a 100% willing model) in the scene she's made. When 12 photographs are complete, and AC is satisfied with treats for a job well done, she hands everything over to Brennan who works his graphic design magic on them and *BOOM* - a calendar is born.
For their first calendar they printed a mere 75 copies and to their surprise it sold out. So the next year they doubled the amount to 150 with the same results. The year after that was 300, and then 500. For 2013 they took a gigantic leap and printed 1000 copies. Still, they were unable to keep up with the demand for the calendar and sold out before the year's end.
Why We Need Your Help
In an attempt to not run out this year, Kate and Brennan are planning on printing 2000 calendars for 2014. And as you can imagine - that isn't cheap.
On top of that the two of them will also be making their first appearance at the National Stationery Show in New York this May in the hopes of reaching more retailers and a larger audience. The expenses involved with participating in this show are already overwhelming as it is without adding the cost of printing the calendar into the equation. This also means that the calendar needs to be finished and ready to go by May instead of their usual fall deadline, greatly decreasing the amount of time to raise the money themselves.
In the past couple of years the retail cost of the calendar has been $16. By helping them out and donating to this cause you'll actually be able to get a copy of it at a discounted price and receive free shipping within the US. There are also some other fun rewards including greeting cards Kate will create using the photographs from the project. Below is an example of some she made last year from their Famous Monsters edition of the Calendar.
Thanks for helping us to make something awesome!
Risks and challenges
Like any project, there are obstacles and delays that may come up along the way, but with this being Kate and Brennan's 6th year in this particular endeavor they feel confident they can tackle any challenges that may arise. They've had many issues with printers in the past years that they've had to overcome - and it's only made them more aware of what to expect. As a result they've placed a month of buffer time between completing the calendar and the National Stationery Show - which should be enough time to resolve any problems that may arise. In this particular year of releasing the calendar their only concern is coming up with the funds to print everything.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
