About this project
We want everyone to enjoy the fun of 3D printing, let your ideas realized and shared in a simple and tangible way. However, most 3D printers on the market are difficult to use, unreliable and expensive. 3D printers tend to be ever more complicated, bulky and confusing. Therefore we made a printer for you and ourselves, the Cetus, a minimalist printer that delivers the joy of creating and building ideas.
Cetus3D is subsidiary of Beijing Tiertime Technology LTD., a company that has been developing and making 3D printers since 2003, even before the RepRap project.
Our products are being used and proven by tens of thousands of people and many of them are proud to be our customers. However we don't want to stop there, we believe 3D printing should be accessible to much more people. Therefore we created Cetus3D, a new brand, aiming to bring changes to the market, users and ourselves. Cetus represents high quality product at truly affordable price and an open-attitude toward our future tech developments.
As a truly essential system, the body is made of aluminum extrusions, and the machine is simplified into only six modules: 3 x Axis module, 1 x Electronic module, 1 x Print bed module, 1 x Extruder module

With a total weight of 3.2 kg and machine dimensions of 260x260x280mm/10.2"x10.2"x10.7", Cetus is highly portable so you can take your creativity anywhere! In a modern world obsessed with making things smaller, faster, and more efficient, the Cetus 3D Printer delivers on all three and is also easy to use for hobbyists, DIYers, designers, and engineers, regardless of age or profession.
Small Size but a BIG Printing Volume

Cetus has industry leading print volume to machine volume ratio at 0.25. It occupys a small space but provide a rather big build volume.
Quality Linear Rails
The core motion system is supported by high quality linear rails. This ensures quiet and reliable printer operation and result in excellent print quality. We promise to use rails that have equal or better quality than our prototypes in the products we deliver.
A Simple yet Effective Extruder with 3 Nozzle Options
A strong fan is provided for optimal cooling, which results in incredible accuracy of details. The print head is designed for easy maintenance, allowing the user to change the nozzle quickly without it heating up. With its 0.2mm HD nozzle, Cetus can print in far more detail than most other FDM printers on the market. The nozzle modules use a peek cap to prevent any plastic residue from sticking to the nozzle surface. This reduces the amount of fume emissions and increases the longevity of the nozzles.

NO Leveling Necessary for Users
The build plate is a 3mm aluminum plate, which ensures a perfectly flat build surface. It is fixed onto the linear guide directly, and there are no moving parts between the slider and the build plate. This ensures that the build surface is flat and parallel along the X-axis. The Y-axis is carefully calibrated in the factory, so users can start printing right out of the box, and there is no need to level the machine before getting to work!
Novel Build Surface
A special print bed surface coating is applied to guarantee a perfect print every time. The surface sticks to PLA and has a high tolerance for nozzle height error. Thanks to this surface coating, removing your prints from the surface is surprisingly easy and clean. The coating itself is very durable and could last for a long time.
Hackable and Upgradable
The Cetus extrusion body accepts standard T nuts. You can also add components, drill holes, etc. The extra 5V output on the print head allows users to add extra electronics. You can even make the whole thing into a different machine. You are only limited by your imagination.
We also provide an extended version that increases the Z-axis travel range. The extended version’s build volume is 180x300x180mm. Backers can add 130USD to any pledge to upgrade their Cetus order from a standard version to the extended version.
Cetus Is Wireless
You can also control and send print jobs to Cetus without physically working on the machine. The iPhone app for Cetus is able to slice and send the print jobs to the printer directly (Wi-Fi).
Software: Best of Both Worlds
The dedicated Cetus 3D-printing software features a straightforward interface, easy breakaway Smart Support, photo to lithopane, custom print material, and more! The software is also supported by Windows, Mac, and iOS. Furthermore, we are currently working to fully support Gcode, meaning that users won’t need a hardware upgrade for Cetus to be compatible with third-party software, allowing you to realize even more functionalities!
Smart Support Technology
The software is able to automatically generate support structures to print models with overhanging structures. These supports can be fine-tuned according to user preference. The removal of the raft and support are also very easy.
Users can receive notifications from the printer through the Cetus mobile app, which will keep you informed about the printer’s status and printing progress—anywhere and anytime. We also have many exciting ideas for Cloud service, but we’re more interested in what our community really wants. We encourage users to contribute their ideas and explain their needs so we can serve you even better!
More Than A 3D Printer
We are building an authorization system inside Cetus that will enable authors to release their designs on our Cetus 3D platform and will allow other people to print them out.
In the process, the STL files will not be exposed, so the chance of intellectual property infringement will be minimized. We are confident that our IP protection system will stimulate the development and release of high-value 3D printable projects.
As a result, authors could be rewarded directly from their designs, and we provide a direct channel for them to connect with interested customers.

MECHA FRAME Armor

MyBuild (TM) MECHA FRAME is a skeletal framework that was originally developed to accept Lego-compatible bricks, which allows players to build their own mecha. We collaborated with the MyBuild team and developed three unique 3D printable armor sets that can be added to the Mecha Frame, resulting in a new way to play and new possibilities for making your own mecha. A Puppet on Your Shoulder

Cheddar Moon (TM) has been designing and creating 3D-printed puppets for several years. Their debut product, Petey the Parrot, impressed many people at the recent MakerFaires in California. People have been asking Dave, the maker of the puppet, where they can buy one of his amazing parrots. Although he is still finishing up the final design for a ready-to-use Petey the Parrot puppet, Dave agreed to collaborate with the Cetus team to make a wonderful and complex product available to DIY users at a low cost. The Blue Jay puppet, in comparison to Petey, is a bit smaller, simpler, and easier to build, and it also includes an adjustable controller arm. The user can paint and assemble the puppet with parts they print on their new Cetus 3D printer. For the record, this puppet isn’t just for professional puppeteers but also for parents, teachers, and children, who will enjoy the life-like appearance and actions featured in this incredible design.

3D Printed Educational Drone Kit
We have been collaborating with Flexbot for a long time, and we always love the newest ideas from this innovative company. Using our printing technology, they have developed a 3D printable 4-axis drone for educational purposes. The drone is only available in kits, so students have to print the chassis and assemble the entire drone from individual parts. Drones are an undeniable part of the future, and many young people want to learn more and get a chance to fly their own drone. This package not only gives you a chance to fly a drone but also the opportunity to build one from scratch and learn about them from the inside out!
Since the drone’s body is entirely 3D printed, it is highly customizable, allowing users to change the drone to suit their tastes and purpose. The electronics and the firmware are fully open-sourced, so advanced users can make modifications and reprogram the drone if they choose.
Risks and challenges
Problems associate with scaling up production
Extensively internal testing of the prototype shows the machine is very robust. We also sent Cetus prototypes to a number of testers outside the company and the overall feedback is very well. However, as always, when scaling up production, quality assurance is a big issue. Now we are ready to move to mass production, a strict quality assurance procedure will be implemented to ensure the machine every Cetus printer is printing right out of the box.
Gcode support is still under development. We hope this function could be updated to our current software soon after the delivery of the pledges. However we are not sure about when it could it be done. Current focus of our software team is to make the software as robust as possible.
As we are supporting Windows, Mac and iOS. The software need to be reliable on all 3 different systems. It is under extensive debugging and testing cycles, we hope it will provide a smooth user experience when the delivery.
The Cetus3D Platform
The platform will be a project library which allow paid content to be listed. The security and user experience are the two biggest issues we face. We cannot be sure the first version of the system could work without any problems.
