Printivale!, a contemporary printmaking exhibit that started in New Hampshire, has been invited to travel to Canton, Ohio.
Printivale! is an exhibition of the work of 21 fabulous printmakers that Erin Sweeney curated for a gallery in southern New Hampshire. It reflects the depth and breadth of contemporary printmaking by showcasing artists from across the US and Ireland. Exhibiting a myriad of techniques, from letterpress printing on found substrates to reductive wood block printing; printing presses built onto the back of bicycles and prints as installations, Erin hopes to educate our viewers by discussing printmaking and all that it brings to us currently. Several of the artists gave talks about their work and a letterpress printing demo was held in the gallery during the exhibition.
Erin was invited by Translations gallery in Canton, Ohio to bring the exhibit on the road: http://www.translationsart.com/. Printivale! will open in Ohio on the first Friday of January, the 5th, 2013. Translations is a gallery dedicated to bringing new experiences to, and interacting with, their viewers. Erin is going to drive the work out to Ohio from New Hampshire so more people can experience the awesome-ness of Printivale! We are hoping to raise travel expenses and to defray some of the shipping costs when the show comes down at the end of January. There will be corresponding events at Translations as well during the month, including a workshop taught by Erin Sweeney.
The artists in this exhibition are:
Bryan Baker, Amanda Benton, Tia Blassingame, Chad Creighton, Amanda D'Amico, Christine Destrempes,Tim Donovan, soosen dunholter, Nick Fournier, Rebecca Gilbert, Joseph Hart, Amos Paul Kennedy, Rian Kerrane, Sarah Lewtas, Colette Lucas, Pilar Nadal, Bobby Rosenstock, Annie Silverman, Paige Simpson, Erin Sweeney, David Twiss, Caroline Ziegler
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The major risk and challenge is the physicality of getting the work out to Ohio. We will need to rent a vehicle and pay for fuel and tolls and other road expenses. I will do this come heck or high water, but raising the funds is much needed. Because this was an invitation that came after the initial "raising" of Printivale!, I felt I couldn't ask the artists to fund this monetarily--even though their generosity with donating their work toward the rewards has been fantastic, and their excitement about the exhibit continuing to have life after NH is infectious, and I can't thank them enough.
