I'm really excited to share my latest music project with all of you. I've been quietly writing this batch of songs for 2 years and recording tracks for the past 6 months. I'm in the home stretch. This album will be unlike any I've ever recorded for a number of reasons.
- This is the first album that I've ever recorded completely live in the studio. All the tracks you will hear on the recording will have been recorded in one take. This is something that I've worked very hard to do. It meant countless hours practicing with a metronome and working on my vocals. The benefit of this type of recording is that it captures what I truly sound like without hiding behind fancy post production tricks and auto tuning. This is authentically me.
- This will be my first album without American Nomad. While I do love a full band sound and love my bandmates, I've wanted to do a more stripped down sound for quite sometime. It'll also be an asset for me to have something that represents my sound as a solo performer. I plan on doing a lot of touring with my new book Composing Temple Sunrise and I think it'll be nice to have a solo record during those tours. If a bigger sound is more your thing, don't worry! I'm hoping to do another full band album with American Nomad in 2017!
- This is my first concept album. In the Folds is the title track and it captures the feeling of the entire album being about how we grow in the spaces between the major moments of our lives. The songs deal with concepts around love, loss, addiction, standing up for yourself, and where we go to get perspective on big problems.
In the Folds will be a nine song album with 8 originals and one Tim O'Brien cover called 5 Rooms. I've asked my voice teacher Dana Saltzman to sit in on Grand Piano which I could not be happier about. She has added some wonderful layering and instrumental sections to many of the songs and has knocked it completely out of the park. I just love her gospel/soul style. What also helped is that we have a great report that we've built up overtime doing private lessons. We really just clicked in the studio and nailed the songs one after another. The two of us managed to lay down 9 songs in two 4 hour sessions. That is fast! In addition, I've asked Gabriella Welch to sit in on a few tunes doing harmony vocals. Gabriella is a wonderful singer and person who has mastered her instrument. What a lucky boy I am.
All the tracks were recorded by Gabriel Sheppard at Decibelle Studios and harmony vocals were done a 25th Street Studios. I've asked mixing wizard Tom Size to get the levels right. This is truly a dream team.
What's the money for you ask? Well, making a record is not cheap. I've already paid for the recording fees. What I need help with is the mixing, mastering, and duplication.
$2,100 - Professional Mixing + $800 - Mastering + $1,000 - Duplication
I have a stretch goal of $5,500. That extra $1,600 will allow me to earn some meaningful press and share this music with more listeners.
Anything you could spare would be awesome. I really appreciate all the love and support over the years with these fundraisers. They have been absolutely crucial to my career and I'm blessed to know all of you. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
Risks and challenges
All of the songs have been recorded. What I really need is to hit my funding goal so I can afford to mix and master the album. That's where you come in! Thanks so much for reading and I welcome any support you could lend to this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
