Everyone has a camera.
At least it seems that way. We now live in an age when everyone is taking pictures of everyone else all the time. And that's a good thing. I have young grandchildren and I'm always taking photos of them because they are so very cute!
In days gone by getting your "portrait" taken at a photo studio was a very big deal because cameras at home just couldn't produce as good a quality. The digital age and computer age has changed all that. It's just not that difficult to take a pretty good photo portrait anymore. Even someone like me.
See what I mean?
So, what if you want to do something different?
What about a mind-bending portrait done as a kaleidoscope design? Here's one example that I call "I Wish I Was An Ocean Goddess"
Here's another using a different photo of myself that resulted in "I Talk With My Hands"
Or this: "Me As Snowflake"
Here's an example I did for this story...showing the three steps:
First, the photo I began with - a picture my husband took of me while we were on vacation one year. As usual I had my camera.
Then I cropped and placed the photo into my 8"x8" template:
Finally, I created this kaleidoscope portrait...I like it!
Portraits In Kaleidoscope
This project will result in a coffee table book filled with unique, amazing and intriguing kaleidoscope design portraits. And the most unique feature of this project is that the portraits in the book will include the backers of the project...you! (Everyone at the $25 level and above can be included in the book! - that is if you want to be.)
The project to-dos are pretty straightforward: backers wishing to have a kaleidoscope portrait will submit a digital file (photo of him or herself) to me, the artist. I will take the photo and produce 3 kaleidoscope images and between us, we will choose the best for inclusion in the book. Some pages in the book will include the kaleidoscope portrait only and some will have both the kaleidoscope portrait and the original photo as a thumbnail.
note: *all kaleidoscope images produced are the property of the artist and copyrighted...however, each participant will receive a digital file of their own kaleidoscope portrait as a "thank you." **family-friendly photos only...this will be a book of kaleidoscope images that everyone from grandma to toddlers can look at.
This is an "all or nothing" project. If the goal is raised by the deadline then each backer at the $25 level and above will receive an email inviting them to participate and describing what kind of digital file to send the artist (that's me!). Funds raised for this project will cover the cost of the work involved. It is my intention to use Blurb.com for the book and have it available for sale worldwide on their site - I've used Blurb before and their quality is awesome.
