Thanks for the support!
Hello Kickstarter Supporters.
Though the fundraising goal for this project is only set to $4,000, I am hoping to raise as much as possible in order to cover the significant up-front printing costs. Not only can you pre-order Exploring the Boulder White Clouds – A Comprehensive Guide, but there are a ton of other great rewards detailed below. Feel free to contact me directly with any questions about a particular reward level (matt@mattlphoto or 208-720-4712).
*** COMBO REWARDS *** - The intent of this Kickstarter Campaign was to allow supporters to pre-order the guidebook AND consider some of the other goodies I have offered.
Unfortunately, the Kickstarter format only allows you to back at a SINGLE REWARD TIER. If you are interested in purchasing multiple rewards (come on, you know you want to…) there are three ways to accomplish this.
1. ** SUPER EASY WAY ** Look for the "COMBO" options I have added in the rewards column to the right (these cost a bit more so scroll down to find 'em). If there is a combo you want, but don't see message Matt and we can find a way...
2. ** EASY WAY ** Upgrade your existing Reward amount to cover the cost of multiple tiers (please consider the suggested shipping costs). Send a quick message to clarify your intentions as Matt will need to track these orders on the back end.
3. ** HARD WAY ** Create a unique Kickstarter account (uugh, more usernames and passwords) and choose the additional reward that interests you.
REWARD DETAILS & IMAGES
$5 THANK YOU - First off, thank you for your generous contribution to what I truly believe is the most comprehensive resource available for the Boulder-White Cloud Mountains. Even if you don’t venture deep into the mountains, your support helps others appreciate and enjoy this amazing public resource!
$10 BWC E-BOOK (PDF) - The ubiquitous pdf format is supported on virtually every handheld device or E-reader (though I would highly recommend a full-color screen!). This is a no-frills E-version of the guidebooks that allows you to peruse the content on your desktop or handheld device. Print only the pages you need to save weight in the backcountry.
$18 "EXPLORING THE WHITE CLOUDS" T-SHIRT - The "Exploring the White Clouds" T-shirt design was created in collaboration with Corey Warren of “Idahome” design fame!
This was one of the primary rewards in the Kickstarter Campaign supporting the research of the Exploring the Boulder-White Clouds. I brought them back by popular demand! Shirts available in Kelly Green, Indigo Blue, Warm Gray, and White.
$22 WILDERNESS NOTE CARDS - During the summer of 2014 while researching the BWC guidebook, I shot 12,833 images. I managed to edit those down to 40 of what I consider to be the best photographs. Peruse the online gallery (link below) to preview some of the images that you can choose for your cards.
$24/$27/$30 EARLY BIRD & EEYORE BWC GUIDEBOOK SPECIALS - Pre-order your copy of Exploring the Boulder-White Clouds! Get in early to receive a 20% discount ($24 - limit of 40), 10% discount ($27 - limit of 40) or the Eeyore version at full retail price. All copies will be signed by author Matt Leidecker.
$40 GEOLOGIC WALL MAP OF THE BWC - Matt created this one-of-a-kind geologic map of the Boulder-White Clouds for the guidebook. He scanned and overlaid information from three separate geologic maps of the region to create this version of simplified geologic units laid over a hillshade base. Major trailheads and peaks are identified to give perspective.
This larger 36 x 33 (sizes can be custom scaled to fit your wall space) map is intended for display on your most easily-accessible wall! It is printed on an HP Designjet Z6600 on 20b bond plain paper and is shipped in a mailing tube. Mounting on foam core is suggested for protection and longevity.
$40 OVERVIEW WALL MAP OF THE BWC - Similar to the geology map above, this modified Overview map from the guidebook has been blown up into a 36" x 33" inch artistic piece to hang on your wall. Images from each of the three new Wilderness Areas have been added to the margins of the map. The size can be scaled to fit your wall space. It ships in a map tube, but it is recommended to mount to foam core for added protection before displaying.
$50 CLASSIC 1915 SAWTOOTH NF MAP - While doing the research for Exploring Sun Valley, Matt came across a digital scan of the official 1915 Sawtooth National Forest map. He cleaned the image and prepped it for reproduction in order to make it accessible to the masses.
The scan of the original map is 36” x 24” but can be scaled up or down to fit your wall space. The map feels like a promotional piece for the region highlighting “Trails of scenic interest” and “Waters well stocked with trout.”
Though relatively accurate, the map misrepresents some of the major drainages and is a great historical piece in and of itself. The map is printed on an HP Designjet Z6600 on 20b bond plain paper and is shipped in a tube. Matting and framing are recommended.
$75 BOULDER-WHITE CLOUDS PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK - This custom designed book was included as a reward in the 2014 BWC guidebook research Kickstarter campaign. This original hardcover 8 x 10 book will include 60 pages of stunning photographs, maps, excerpts and stories from the research phase of the project.
The books are printed on demand through Blurb, a professional high quality online printer. These unique books will only be available through Kickstarter and (eventually) the Idaho River Publications website. Here are a few sample layout pages:

$80 SNRA GUIDEBOOK TRIUMVIRATE - One of the other motivations for researching and writing Exploring the Boulder-White Clouds was to complete coverage of the entire SNRA. This is a core landscape that is near and dear to many Idahoans' hearts and it was an incredible experience to cover it in such detail.
This reward includes three guidebooks: Exploring Sun Valley – which covers the southern SNRA in the Smoky, Boulder, and Pioneer mountains; Exploring the Sawtooths – which covers the Sawtooth wilderness and western SNRA; and finally Exploring the Boulder-White Clouds – which covers the eastern and northern expanse of the SNRA.
$75 ENTIRE BWC IN 7.5 TOPO WALL MAP - One of the original inspirations behind my desire to write Exploring the Boulder-White Clouds was a digitally stitched and reduced wall map that displayed most of the Boulder-White Clouds. I came across it at a friend's house, and did indeed spend time staring and fantasizing about long traverses through the range before my wife pulled me away for dinner.
I have taken my base BWC 7.5-minute topo map and overlaid all of the iconography from individual maps found in all three of my guidebooks. The result is a stunning and informative wall map of the Boulder-White Clouds that will no doubt draw you in.
The finished map size is 60" x 49" and is printed on an HP Designjet Z6600 on 20b bond plain paper. The size was be scaled to fit your wall space, though I would recommend a minimum size of 48" x 39". The map is shipped in a mailing tube, though it is recommended to mount the piece on foam core before displaying it on the wall of your man cave!
$240 BWC METAL PRINT (16" x 24") - Choose an image from the following online gallery http://www.mattlphoto.com/Galleries/Idaho/BWCKick/ to be printed on a vivid sheet of aluminum. This unique photographic display pulls the viewer in with a brilliant, high-gloss (also available in semi-gloss) finish. Un-encumbered by a frame or glass, the image literally floats off the wall and into your home. Alternate sizes are available. Contact Matt directly (email@example.com or 208-720-4712) to discuss proper pledge amount to up- or down-size your print.
$550 WHITE CLOUD CREST PANO - During the summer of 2014, Matt spent hours on the trail and poring over maps looking for the perfect panoramic perspective of the main White Clouds Crest. The ideal opportunity came together after an October storm dusted the high peaks with snow. Matt hiked out a remote ridge and set up a bivvy in order to stay for sunset light. The mountains did not disappoint.
The resulting panoramic image was stitched together from 15 individual exposures. Peak names and elevations are provided for viewer education, but can be removed for a purely scenic landscape image. The image size is 18” x 52” but can be scaled to fit your wall space. Shipping in a solid wooden crate is included in the pledge amount. Contact Matt directly (firstname.lastname@example.org or 208-720-4712) to discuss proper pledge amount to up- or down-size your print. See a larger version of the image here:
