Caligula is the first solo exhibition of New Orleans based artist, Wesley Stokes.
The title is intended to serve as a vehicle to evoke power, excess, and tragedy echoing elements of the classical world and bringing them into conversation with the contemporary. Through paintings, drawings, sculptures, sound, and videos, I seek to create an immersive environment.
Funding for the project would pay for final expenses involved with the exhibition's production, expenses such as installation costs, painting the gallery, providing refreshments at the opening and all events to take place during the course of the show, publicity for the show, and with any luck, a nice dinner to thank all of my collaborators and friends who have worked so hard to see this show come together.
During the course of the exhibition, other artists, writers, and musicians whose work shares a dialogue with my own will perform in the gallery.
Chicago based artist, Elijah Burgher will perform a sigil magick workshop on Friday, June 8th.
Writers, Justin Benoit (ex-Cold Cave) and Michael Jeffrey Lee will have a reading on Friday, June 22nd.
