Anytime Dept. is an artist-run curatorial and event programming collaborative founded in June, 2017 by Rebecca Steele and Lydia Rosenberg in Cincinnati, OH. Curatorial projects emphasize the importance of local exposure to the experimental practices of national artistic communities, while providing artists a space to produce work outside of the immediate pressures of a market. Anytime Dept. works with emerging and mid career contemporary artists to exhibit work and engage in rigorous projects that support and produce thoughtful dialogues between artists and intellectual communities. Anytime Dept. hosts and develops a meal in honor of visiting artists as an additional point of engagement with members of the local community. Anytime Dept. sites the table as an essential point of contact. Participating artists work with Anytime Dept. to develop a public interaction in the form of a lecture, performance, or workshop which sometimes involves collaborations or opportunities for local artists. Anytime Dept. recently moved into a new building at 3025 Colerain Ave in Camp Washington.
We are both visual artists who first met in Portland OR and rediscovered each other in Cincinnati. We have worked independently on a wide variety of curatorial and artistic projects.
We believe that experimentation and investigation of challenging issues in contemporary art practice is best supported by exhibition platforms that allow for and promote risk taking. In our first season of programming we operated out of the Hoffner Lodge as a temporary space to workshop our project. In the first 7 months we mounted 7 exhibitions with over twenty artists from around the country and hosted performances, poetry readings, workshops and classes. As an extension of Anytime Dept.’s programming, Rebecca founded the Cincinnati Art Book Fair, the first iteration of which took place in Dec 2017.
After experiencing the success of our first season, we decided to open a permanent exhibition space and have programmed through the next year. We are excited to present a series of solo projects and group exhibitions and we look forward to expanding our ideas and methods with each project.
Our project comes from a desire to express and extend ideas of generosity, friendship and experimentation. All of the funds raised during this campaign will go to support the following things:
- Travel and accommodations for visiting artists
- Shipping artworks in a manner that meets industry standards
- Producing ephemera with local and visiting artists
- Tools and supplies for special events
- Operating expenses and remodeling for our new space
Aside from our love and sincere gratitude, we also have several incentives to entice you into giving us a bit of your hard earned banknotes. Check out the “rewards” section for more info on what you get when you give. Learn more about our work by going to our website: anytimedept.com (or clicking on images for more)
