Want to skip all this and watch the first episode right now?

Yeah, you do.

OK, are you back? Great.

Because we've got STRETCH GOALS!!!

****************************************************************************

STRETCH GOALS

Now that we've reached our goal of $10,000 to fund six more episodes of Fake Geek Girls, we're looking at what else we can do.

What can we do with a little icing on the cake of the first season of the show?

Cosplay.

If we reach $11,000, we will do AN ENTIRE EPISODE in full cosplay. Every cast member. The whole episode. One entire episode will be done entirely in geeky costume. What does that mean? Princess Leia? Maybe. Any iteration of The Doctor? Maybe. Spiderman? Could happen. Klingons? We'd consider it. Katniss Everdeen? Almost certainly.

If you want to see Jessa, Kat, and the ENTIRE CAST dressed up in ANY geeky costume you can imagine, keep the funds flowing. Because we will make it happen! You have two days. We believe in you!

But we're almost at $10,500 now. What if we make MORE than $11,000?

Oh, don't worry. We have plans. Some potential things that COULD happen if we hit $12,500 or more:

- An eighth episode of the show!

- Actually paying our cast and crew a living wage!

- Hiring a production designer and/or editor! (Those are two crew positions we don't entirely need, but which would make the show a lot better.)

- Guest stars! You know, the kind you've actually heard of.

We'll let you know more info if it seems like we're getting close to meeting our $12,500 stretch goal.

But, wait, you're asking. Usually if people do stretch goals, there are rewards that go with that. Never fear!

If we reach $11,000, everyone, both previous backers and new backers, will get a DVD of the full season for donating at the $60 level. That's all episodes of the show (whether the currently projected seven or any additional episodes we do if stretch goals are met), on DVD, physically mailed to you for posterity. In addition to all the other rewards of prior levels.

There could be more rewards available at higher levels if we surpass $11,000. One never knows...

Fake Geek Girls is a comedy webseries about female nerds. Specifically, it's about Jessa and Kat. Jessa is a video game designer. Kat is an actress who pays the rent by working as a convention booth babe. Together they're gamers, sci fi fans, readers of comic books, and science dorks.

The first season of the show will span seven episodes as we follow Kat and Jessa's adventures in life, work, and geekery. Will Jessa figure out how to make a name for herself in the video game industry? Will Kat get her big break? And possibly more importantly, will they manage to score tickets to Comic-Con?

Wait a second, you're thinking. If they made the first one on their own, why do they need me?

The first episode was shot for the price of a few pizzas. We used our own homes as locations and had a three person crew. Nobody got paid, and the story was limited based on what we could pull off with no budget.

Going forward, we'll be bringing you something a little more ambitious. Upcoming episodes will take place in NON LIVING ROOM locations! We have plans to introduce several new principal characters. With a real budget behind the show, we'll be able to flesh out the crew a little. We'll also be able to afford costumes and props to give you a better sense of the nerdy world Jessa and Kat inhabit.

Here are a few sneak previews of elements we won't be able to include in the show without your involvement:

  • a comic shop!
  • cosplay!
  • table top gaming!
  • the set of a sci fi movie!

We plan to put as much of our $10,000 budget on screen as possible.

I guess if you liked Jessa and Kat riffing over beers in their living room and thought that was plenty of excitement for a webseries about geek girl culture, our work is done. We'd be honored to produce six more episodes of two people talking in a room.

But we have a feeling that you want to see more than that. And we want to make Fake Geek Girls everything we know it can be. So join us. With your contributions, Kat and Jessa will truly be in your base, killing your d00ds. Or something like that.

Risks and challenges

Making a webseries is hard. Because the budget is tight, we will have to schedule shoots around the day jobs of the entire cast and crew. We've also written an ambitious slate of episodes which will require new camera techniques, locations that can't be locked down in advance, and some serious post-production finesse. While we're confident that we can make Fake Geek Girls happen on time and within our budget, it's true that there's ALWAYS a hitch.

With years of production experience on feature films and television shows (the real kind), series creator Sara Clarke has what it takes to get Fake Geek Girls off the ground. We also have the can-do spirit and ever-positive attitude of producer Julie-Joy Voss, who not only does NOT take no for an answer, but manages to do it all with a smile.

We might be up all night. We might not have showered. We might be subsisting exclusively on diet coke and cool ranch doritos. Our bosses at our day jobs might be really mad. We might even miss this week's episode of Game Of Thrones. But Fake Geek Girls IS GOING TO HAPPEN.
